Lance Gasaway, co-owner of this year's Kentucky Derby winning horse, Mystik Dan, joins me for an exciting conversation — the first of its kind on the Dan Time Podcast! Lance, along with Daniel Hamby III and cousin Brent & his wife Sharilyn Gasaway, comprise the 4 GR Racing group. We talk about Mystik Dan's upset victory at Churchill Downs, what it means for the state of Arkansas and the team that surrounds the 3-year-old bay colt, including trainer Kenny McPeek and jockey Brian Hernandez, Jr. This episode is dedicated to Mystik Dan — but Lance and I also talk some University of Arkansas at Monticello (UAM) football! He gained early recognition from Modern Drummer magazine as an up-and-coming drummer in 2019 while touring with Mick Blankenship. Danny is Colombian-American, born in Los Angeles and raised in Cincinnati, OH. He is experienced in rock, prog metal, jazz fusion and Afro Cuban drumming. Danny met me in downtown Cincy during a rare break from the road. We talk about life on the road, his playing style & setup, influences & much more. Dan Maines, bassist and founding member of the iconic hard rock band CLUTCH, is my guest this week! Dan and I connected just before Clutch's show at Vinyl Music Hall in Pensacola on May 12. We talk touring, family, record label changes & what keeps Clutch going after all these years. The band released its 13th full-length album Sunrise on Slaughter Beach on September 16, 2022.
Dan describes the special bond he shares with the other three members of the band — all of whom met while attending Seneca Valley High School in Germantown, MD 35 years ago. The foursome have continuously recorded and toured since the release of their first independent EP Pitchfork in 1991.
Clutch wraps up its April/May New World Samarai Tour on May 19 — then embarks on its first tour of Latin America on July 18! The band returns to North America for a September/October "Two-Headed Beast" co-headlining tour with Rival Sons.
Dan plays the Fender Precision Bass, Rickenbacker 4003 & Gibson EB-3 Bass.
