What's the Church's View on Suicide? (Special Podcast Highlight)

What's the Church's View on Suicide? (Special Podcast Highlight)

Patrick Madrid had a heartfelt conversation with Ava, who was grappling with the heavy burden of suicidal thoughts.

    The Church's Loving Perspective

Ava's question about the Catholic Church's view on suicide led to an enlightening and tender explanation. Patrick shared that while the Church views suicide as a serious sin because it involves taking one’s own life, it also recognizes the intense pain and suffering that often lead to such a tragic decision.

He explained that our desire to live is a natural gift from God, and when someone feels compelled to end their life, it’s usually because they're under unimaginable stress, whether it’s mental illness, extreme fear, or deep depression. The Church, in her wisdom and compassion, understands that many people who end their lives are not fully responsible due to their overwhelming anguish.

Offering Hope and a Helping Hand

When Ava revealed she was personally struggling, Patrick immediately provided her with the 988 hotline, a lifeline for those in crisis, reminding her of the importance of reaching out to trained professionals who are ready to help 24/7.

But Patrick didn’t stop there. He asked Ava to call him back in a week, letting her know she wasn’t alone. Would you consider praying for Ava and offering up your suffering for her?

If you or someone you know is struggling with suicidal thoughts, remember that you are not alone. Help is available, and people care about you.

Remember, no matter how dark things may seem, there is always hope and love waiting to embrace you.
