    Darrel Dorsey, JR and the Hurricane Hundred K

    The Hurricane Hundred K welcomes Darrel Dorsey, Jr. to the 2024 edition of the race. Darrel is a 39-year-old husband and father of two, living in Frederick, MD, and working as an accountant by day and running
    coach by night. 

    Darrel is the son of a marine who grew up on a farm. He
    credits his dad and his upbringing for his ability to endure hard things.  

    In long-distance running, Darrel came out
    swinging and won two of his first six races and was third in the other four. He has some impressive finishes, including the Rim to River 100, where he was fourth, third, and second in that order and finished in 17:21:19 in 2023! He has the course record at the Pemberton 24-hour event, where he ran 135 miles, and a course record at the Dark Side 8-hour event in 2022.  Darrel also competed in the Spartan Race World Championships in 2016 and 2017.  

    Darrel has had strong runs at many races and formats, and
    we’re excited to have him and his family at the Hurricane Hundred K!

    Sawyer Magnett Comes to the Hurricane Hundred K!

    Introducing Sawyer Magnet, a remarkable individual who, at the age of just 22, has already achieved a great deal.

    Originally from San Diego, CA, she spent her formative
    years in Northern Arizona and now resides in Lynchburg, VA. Currently a student at Liberty University, she is pursuing a master's degree in sports management
    this fall, a testament to her dedication and ambition. 

    She ran her first ultra at 19 at the famous Promise Land 50k and recently set the course record in a time of 4:58:34.    She has won seven of the nine ultras she’s
    entered and holds four course records. 

    She has won notable races on the East Coast, such as Mountain Masochist, Iron Mountain, and Holiday
    Lake, and on the West Coast, at White River 50 and the Flagstaff 53k.

    She is partnered with Vimazi Shoes. She’s young, bursting with talent, and her potential is extraordinary. We’re excited to have Sawyer come to the HHK.

    Next up in the Hurricane Hundred K Runner Profile Series is Kris Rugloski, a 27-year-old living in Denver, CO.
    Kris has an impressive list of running and obstacle course racing accomplishments at such a young age, including 15 100 milers within four years and the Grand Slam of ultra running in 2022.  For OCR, she is the Hyrox World Champion in 2022 and the World's Toughest Mudder (24 hr) champ in 2022 and 2023.  Kris was also the 2nd place lady at the 2023 Hurricane Hundred K and is returning for more.

    Welcome back, HollyAnn Swan, to the Hurricane Hundred K in 2024! HollyAnn is the women’s champion of the inaugural Hurricane Hundred K and holds the course record on the OG in a blazing 9:31:32. HollyAnn is originally from Alabama but now makes her home in Huntington, WV, with her husband, Chris, and their daughter, Corrine. Much has changed for HollyAnn since her last running of the HHK, so we’re talking about those changes and balancing life as a wife, mother, full-time pharmacy student, and elite athlete.

    Matt Fitzgerald is a runner, triathlete, coach, sports nutritionist andauthor who has written and contributed to 30 books and guides and is an expert communicator on complex ideas in the endurance world to combine training, nutrition, and the mental game.

    His best-known titles include Racing Weight, Brain Trainingfor Runners, and Triathlete Magazine’s Essential Week-by-WeekTraining Guide.

    In addition to his own books, he has had stints writing for Triathlete, AthletesVillage.com, Active.com, and Competitor Group. Matt’sbyline has appeared in a long list of national publications including Bicycling, Maxim, Men’s Fitness, Men’s Health, Men’s Journal, Outside, Shape, Stuff, and Women’s Health.

    Most recently, Matt created the Coaches of Color Initiative, an apprenticeship program that aims to improve diversity in endurance sports, and Dream Run Camp, with an awesome tagline of Wheredreamers come to run and runners live the dream.

    Matt Fitzgerald has been a runner since the age of 11 when he ranthe last mile of the Boston Marathon with his dad.  He was already a writer and by the age of 9 was writing as a comedic poet.

    Matt is a New Hampshire native and now makes his home in Flagstaff, AZ with his wife Nataki and intends to keep racing until he no longer can.
