A new era for Chile? | Inside Story

30 years after its return to democracy Chile is still governed by a constitution written by General Augosto Pinochet - the military dictator who ruled in the 1970s and 80s. But that is about to change.
An overwhelming 78 percent voted this week to have a new constitution written.
Voters also rejected a proposal to leave that job to politicians.
Sunday's referendum was the culmination of a year of protests, but now the hard part begins.

Can the UN's New Nuclear Treaty Really Abolish Atomic Weapons? | Inside Story

Can the UN's New Nuclear Treaty Really Abolish Atomic Weapons? | Inside Story

A UN treaty banning nuclear wapons has now been ratified by 50 countries, and will come into force next January. Supporters are hailing it as a paradigm-shifting moment in the way the world sees atomic weapons.

But none of the countries that have approved it, actually have a nuclear arsenal - and none of the world's acknowledged nuclear powers have signed up.

All this raises doubts about how much it can achieve.

    Presenter: Mohammed Jamjoom

Will agreement in Libya hold this time? | Inside Story

Will agreement in Libya hold this time? | Inside Story

It's been praised as historic, but received by many with caution.
Libya's warring sides have agreed to what the United Nations is calling a permanent ceasefire.
The deal was signed after nearly a decade of conflict - triggered by the downfall of longtime leader Muammar Gaddafi.
Libya's been in turmoil ever since he was removed from power in 2011.
There've been two rival administrations - one in Tripoli - and another in the east in Toubruk.
Both sides praised the deal and promised to abide by it.
    But what are the guarantees?
And can it end outside interference in Libya?

    Presenter: Hashem Ahelbarra

    Guests
Mustafa Fetouri, an award-winning journalist and contributor to the Middle East Monitor.
Alice Alunni, a Libya researcher at Durham University and an international development consultant.
Jason Pack, founder of Libya-Analysis LLC.

Who's more convincing Trump or Biden? | Inside Story

Who's more convincing Trump or Biden? | Inside Story

US President Donald Trump and Democratic Party nominee Joe Biden have held their second and final debate, less than two weeks before the election.
The threat of having their microphones muted largely deterred interruptions - making for a less chaotic event than the first.
They still sparred about the coronavirus response, racism in America and accused each other of corruption.
So, how's Covid-19 shaping the presidential race in the US?
    And is either candidate convincing?

    Presenter: Hashem Ahelbarra

    Guests
Adolfo Franco, Republican Strategist and former adviser to senator John McCain
Rick Wilson, Co-Founder of The Lincoln Project
Clark Plexico, former North Carolina State Democrat Senator and elected delegate to the National Democratic Convention.

Is Sudan seeing a second uprising? | Inside Story

Soaring bread prices led to last year's uprisal in Sudan.
Now, more than a year after the removal of long-time ruler Omar Al Bashir, the economic crisis has deepened.
Prices have skyrocketed, food and fuel are in short supply and unemployment has jumped.
People are back on the streets protesting over their dire living conditions.
They blame the transitional government for failing to revive the economy.
And accuse the army of extending its power over most institutions.
But can these protests lead to change this time?

    Guests:
Ahmed Soliman, Researcher at Chatham House and Specialist in the Horn of Africa and the Sudans
Jonas Horner, Deputy Director for Horn of Africa and Senior Analyst for Sudan at International Crisis Group
Marwa Gibril, Sudanese Activist and member of Sudanese Doctors' Union UK
