Doug Harrison: A spiritual companion's journey towards Love (Pt. 1)

Doug Harrison: A spiritual companion's journey towards Love (Pt. 1)

Our guest for this episode is Doug Harrison. Doug is not only a personal friend, but also a sought after spiritual director, theologian and ethicist. It’s through his roles as teacher, mentor, and spiritual companion that Doug constantly extends his unique and deep understanding of the need for an ongoing dialogue between the larger church and the LGBTQ community. He issues the call for all who will listen that God is with us here, now, in this moment. He reminds us to be gentle with each other as we seek out identity and meaning as lgbtq people of faith. The first half of this two part interview will explore the themes of transformation, formation, suffering, love and reconciliation by revisiting past experiences of exclusion and isolation. Doug’s vulnerability and openness offer a fresh and vital voice to those who seek out the holy friction between faith and sexuality.

Listed below are links to books, articles, or other resources we may have mentioned. Remember to like and follow Let The Light In podcast, Facebook, and Instagram. This will ensure you're notified when the second part of our interview with Doug is released.

Jesus and Parkland Students Found in the Temple

Jesus and Parkland Students Found in the Temple

A brief reflection on the story of Jesus found in the temple, as told in the Gospel of Luke. I find, for myself, lessons to be learned from the leadership/coming-of-age role the boy Jesus steps into, and the leadership roles the Parkland students have been thrust into. There's a strong reluctance among many adults in power to take these young people seriously. I suggest there is a bit of ego getting in the way of understanding and compassion. This is a reflection on that reluctance and tension, and how we might find a way to set aside pride and move forward.

    Episode-1 Ai Weiwei Film Review

    Episode-1 Ai Weiwei Film Review

In today’s episode, we’ll explore Chinese Artist Ai Weiwei’s 2017 documentary, HUMAN FLOW. Ai Weiwei is one of China’s most acclaimed artist, an international cultural influencer, an activist, filmaker, curator and architect.

In Human Flow, Ai Weiwei works to capture the depth and enormity of the largest displacement of humans since the end of world war II. More than 65 million people around the world have fled their homes as a result of war, famine, and climate change. In just over one year of filming, Ai Weiwei takes us to 23 countries, including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, France, Greece, Germany, Iraq, Israel, Italy, Kenya, Mexico, Turkey and the United States. Ai Weiwei introduces us to the most desperate of people, and brings a keen focus to a reality that is mostly lost when added to the ever changing news cycle.

We’ll briefly explore themes around human connectedness, compassion, and the sovereignty of the individual.
