Morphic Realities: Picasso Physics, Myth, & The New Philosophy - Formscapes, Kehlan Morgan #261
Today on the show we are meeting up with Kehlan Morgan, from @Formscapes on YouTube. Kehlan is a master of the past and helps wrestle with a wide range of favorite philosophical dilemmas. We question whether matter can produce consciousness or if it's a separate phenomenon. We discuss intergenerational memory and Sheldrake's theory of morphic fields, proposing a collective memory beyond genetics. We examine of the distinction between description and explanation in science, and how it impacts our understanding of reality. We critique modern science's disempowering effects, including the inversion of beneficial myths and the exploitation of unseen forces. Finally we glean insights from Rudolph Steiner's work, highlighting a schism between relational reality and objective reality, questioning the dominance of physics and exploring the limitations of a monistic worldview.

What Stops Our Interstellar Future? - Devon Eriksen, Theft of Fire #260
Devon Eriksen is the author of the ongoing Space Orbital trilogy, which opened up with Theft of Fire, described as a "Shoot-em-up space opera, [of] mysterious alien artifacts, freedom-minded Belters versus corporate oligarchs..." In his work, Devon explores many of the themes we tinker with on the show - particularly the ethics of space exploration. A steadfast exploration of space-colonization, Devon brings a very different perspective to the human project not often embraced by the analytic academics we often encounter, who seem to be concerned with de-growth and the scaling back of our material economy. We talk about the role of government in space exploration, the colonial perils of the past in the context of the New Frontier, and the role of fiction in shaping objective reality.

No Petroleum, No Problem? - Dr. Simon Michaux, Geological Survey of Finland # 259
Dr. Simon Michaux is a professor of geometallurgy at the Geological Survey of Finland. After having spent several years in private industry, he was laid off during one of the regular busts that inevitably accompany booms in the mining sector. In that period, Simon found a new appreciation for the material basis of civilization while taking temporary work as an organic farmer. When he returned to intellectual work as a professor, he brought this real-world understanding to geopolitical assessments, presenting his analyses to everyone from economists to UN delegations. Ultimately, what separates Simon from his peers is his ability to suggest a realistic solution set to the difficulty of planning a technologically accelerating future within the confines of a fundamentally finite material ecosystem. He lays out a set of alternative approaches to nuclear power, combustion power, and engines that will absolutely make you stop and reconsider the possibilities. His presentation begins with the idea that we may be running out of petroleum, but that doesn't mean we have to be running out of fuel. A subsequent podcast will explore Simon's ongoing work to demonstrate his principles in an idealized city-of-the future in the desert of Peru. More on his Prometheus Project to come, very soon.

What's Making People So Fat? - DemystifyPod #258
Dr. Barbara Corkey is an Emeritus Professor of Medicine and Biochemistry at Boston University. Over her prolific and outstanding academic career she went deep into the mechanics of metabolic disease. Along the way, she stumbled upon some shocking insight about the nature of obesity as she watched the epidemic unfold in real time. Despite the popular wisdom that weight gain is a simple matter of calories in v. calories out, Dr. Corkey came to understanad that there was a sea of environmental toxins wreaking havoc on our food supply which seemed to influence weight outcomes more than anything else. Her revelations reach into every aspect of the food supply and the organization of our modern civilization. What do you make of it? Tell us your thoughts in the comments!

Understanding Nature Without Models? - Dr. Gopi Vijaya, DemystifyPod #257
Dr. Gopi Vijaya began his scientific career in solar physics but quickly branched out into fields as diverse as projective geometry, Goethean Science, foundations of astronomy, calculus, and the Reciprocal System of physics. Our conversation begins with the relationship between science and technology and moves into the philosophical realm asking seemingly bizarre questions like - can we do science without models? Also - how do we collaborate as thinkers without competing? Along the way we explore outstanding anomalies in light, electromagnetism, gravity and color theory. It's a wild ride through many of our favorite topics here. Let us know your thoughts in the comments!

Transhumanism: Path to Transcendence or Extinction? - Dr. Miklos Lukacs, USMP - DemystifyPod #256
Dr. Miklos Lukacs is a Research Professor of Science and Technology Policy at the University of San Martin de Porres in Lima, Peru. He also happens to be one of the leading critics of transhumanism, which he defines as the technologically-driven push for super longevity, super intelligence, and super wellbeing. Lukacs argues that this campaign threatens the historical relationship between humans and technology, where our tools serve us, rather than the other way around. He worries that by placing such an outsize importance on external tools, we allow ourselves to be molded into an entirely new form that emerges not from bottom-up evolutionary forces, but from an external, top-down locus of control. Our conversation lays out the basics of what Lukacs identifies as transhumanism, and then turns to an exploration of how to balance progress with tradition.
