City Cast Portland City Cast
-
- News
City Cast Portland captures the one-of-a-kind creative spirit of this place and tackles who we are and where we’re going — from big deals, like equity and livability, to tiny delights, like the city's most wonderful doughnut. Our home is teeming with creativity and controversy, natural beauty and impossibly good food and drink.
Host Claudia Meza is so over the notion that ‘Portland is over.’ On the show, she’ll revive your civic pride and stir you to help create local change — through conversations with neighbors, newsmakers, artists and entrepreneurs about our ever-changing city.

So today on City Cast Portland, we’re conducting an exit interview of sorts to get Jackson-Glidden’s hottest takes on our food scene, as well as her all-time favorite — and least favorite — dishes that she’s eaten while on the job.

Why Rene Gonzalez Wants To Be Mayor
This month on City Cast Portland, we’re interviewing candidates running to be the next mayor of our city. And today on the show, we’re talking to our third candidate, Commissioner Rene Gonzalez. Since joining the Portland City Council in 2023, he’s been a vocal advocate for public safety and has attracted support from the law enforcement and business communities. He’s also generated controversy with his hard-line stances on stronger penalties for drug offenses and unsheltered homelessness. We’re talking to him about why he thinks he’s fit for the job.

A Guide To Making Friends in Portland (As An Adult)
In a place full of introverts that rains eight months out of the year, it can be challenging to meet new people as an adult. What if you don’t like drinking or hiking? How do you spark meaningful conversations with strangers? Now that the weather's heating up and people are getting outside, it’s time to do something about it. Today on City Cast Portland, we’re revisiting a conversation from earlier this year with local tour guide and founder of Throw Snakes Tours, Dresden De Vera. He’s a self-described friend-for-hire and has some great tips on where to meet people in a city that some newcomers claim can be a bit stand-offish.
This conversation originally aired March 13, 2024
