A gunman said he came to El Paso on Aug. 3, 2019 "to kill Mexicans." He opened fire on shoppers at a Walmart near the U.S., Mexico border in one of the deadliest attacks against Latinos in modern U.S. history that left 23 people dead. Victims included Americans and residents of neighboring Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. In this first episode of Our Border Life, three UT El Paso journalism students with ties to both sides of the border reflect on the changes they've seen in the year since the attack and how they find themselves more aware of racism, but also stronger and more prepared to confront it.
