008 ESSENTIALS - EMOTION: one element every message needs to CONNECT; plus creating great CONTENT Empower Your Platform with Joel Weldon

    • Ledarskap

Welcome to Episode 008 of the ESSENTIALS series. In this episode we focus on one element every message needs to help you CONNECT with your audience.
(01:10) Before we begin, DOWNLOAD the free Quick Guide PDF HERE: PDF Quick Guide to Creating a Talk that Sticks
(01:27) It's not possible to cover in one short podcast everything needed to create a great message or sermon. So today we will focus on ONE critical element. It's a wonderful technique that will endear you to, and build trust with your listeners.
First, choose the subject of your message and then refine it down to one focused objective. Create a concise sentence that defines your objective. This will rule the rest of your message creation. Then gather all the elements and items your talk will potentially contain. Next you will trim, trim, trim and then organize your elements in the order you will deliver them.
3 major areas of an orators speech were defined by Aristotle in ancient Greece. Ethos, Logos, and Pathos. (see the Venn diagram in the PDF.) Today we concentrate on the Pathos element (03:19). It's the emotional and feeling part of your talk. (08:12) Without Pathos, your talk will not sink in and stick with your listener as well as it could. (08:56) To do this, use a story, experience, or memory of your own life.
The use of FEELINGS in your message often times gets a bad rap. (10:29) They are often the glue that cements the truth into your audience. (13:50) Your listeners begin to know you, then trust you.
(14:55) Dennis Agajanian, a long time Christian Musician, is a master of communication from the stage. He could quickly read an audience and make changes to his message or concert accordingly.
(16:35) Start cataloguing your life memories. Write them down and tag them; use voice memos on your phone or apps like Evernote to reference them.
People buy the feeling they hope to get in a purchase, or any other life changing decision. (23:20)
(24:18) Thank you for the notes and emails. Please don't hesitate to reach out to us. We'd love to help.
(25:00) Many other resources are available all across the internet to help you with ideation and content curation for your sermons and messages. i.e.: www.life.church  www.sermonspice.com www.sermonsearch.com www.sermon.net  and Google can find you many more, along with just listening and referencing your favorite speakers, pastors and communicators messages online.
