The SAT words which I used today are:

Alchemy: the medieval forerunner of chemistry, based on the supposed transformation of matter. It was concerned particularly with attempts to convert base metals into gold or to find a universal elixir.
Exorcism: the expulsion or attempted expulsion of an evil spirit from a person or place.
Divination: the practice of seeking knowledge of the future or the unknown by supernatural means.
Profound: very great or intense
Haggard: looking exhausted and unwell, especially from fatigue, worry, or suffering
Threadbare: becoming thin and tattered with age.
Swarthy: dark-skinned, olive-skinned, dusky, tanned.
Futile: incapable of producing any useful result; pointless.
Gluttonous: excessively greedy, piggish.
