Roger Tyrrell has been Tim's mentor since college some 25 years ago and until only recently a senior lecturer at the University of Portsmouth.  Roger is a prominent academic who has played diverse leadership roles and demonstrated a commitment to exploring architecture through a phenomenological lens. Roger's recent focus involves researching Jørn Utzon's work and design methodology, leading to international collaborations. Roger is also an author, with his book 'Aalto Utzon Fehn: Three Paradigms of Phenomenological Architecture' published in 2018.

The Graduate Art Show at the Vanner Gallery showcases the work of some of the country’s most talented up-and-coming artists. The exhibition featuring work by 20 recent graduates from some of the UK’s top art schools, launched at the Woolff Gallery and The William Gallery in London, is now showing in Salisbury. The show features a range of art, with paintings, sculptures, prints, and ceramics selected from hundreds of submissions from 38 participating universities. What does Climate Change look like from the other side of the world? Tim and Andy talk to David Konwiser, a Costa Rican-based Architect, comparing stories about how climate change and the environment affect design and practice.

In this special edition of the Architecture Made Simple, Tim and Andy offer a simple audio guide to “This Too Will Pass”.

Tim Scrace’s latest sculpture encourages passers-by to reflect on the past, present and future of the city.  Listen to this podcast as a walk through experience with the artist.

Commissioned by Salisbury BID, with funding from Arts Council England, the sculpture was created to mimic pilgrimage, the movement of people to and from the cathedral.  The passing of time and memory.  The process of reflection, mindfulness and vision represented in snapshots of the past, present and future.  Viewers pass along the same path as their ancestors and are encouraged to stop and recognise this. #TTWP will remain in place on Salisbury High Street throughout the summer 2021.  Tim will collaborate with students from Wiltshire College who will be on hand during weekends from 11-2 in June to encourage the public to interact with the work and respond to the questions using chalk.

In this episode, Tim and Andy are joined by Dan Thompson, founder of the Empty Shop Network and author of Pop Up Business for Dummies as they discuss furloughed space. 

Over the course of this past year, many people have had to get used to the idea of redundancy.  That is a job, idea, business or even a way of life that no longer exists.  Redundancy is tough and often leads you to question the reasons behind it as well as your own ability.

Strangely our experience of furlough and this pandemic are not so different to being made redundant. Having suffered redundancy* first-hand, I recognise that it can leave you feeling emotionally bereft and without purpose. The support schemes set up to reassure now disguise what we all know is going on behind the scenes.  The reality is that we are all on edge, stuck in limbo, anticipating the inevitable but afraid of making the jump.
