Hi, I’m Dax Shepard, and I love talking to people. I am endlessly fascinated by the messiness of being human, and I find people who are vulnerable and honest about their struggles and shortcomings to be incredibly sexy. I invite you to join me as I explore other people’s stories. We will celebrate, above all, the challenges and setbacks that ultimately lead to growth and betterment. What qualifies me for such an endeavor? More than a decade of sobriety, a degree in Anthropology and four years of improv training. I will attempt to discover human “truths” without any laboratory work, clinical trials or data collection. I will be, in the great tradition of 16th-century scientists, an Armchair Expert.

    Flightless Bird: Flights of Fancy

We’re trying something a little different today - something we’re calling “Flights of Fancy.” Now awhile back, if you follow David Farrier on Instagram, you would have seen a prompt where he wanted you to pitch a deeply American topic YOU could speak on. Maybe it was a job you had, or some other personal insight you could give into something AMERICAN. Maybe you worked at Buckees, or in the depths of the White House. We heard from so many of you - like hundreds - with so many ideas. Rob made a fancy spreadsheet to collate all your responses, and we picked a bunch we liked. Then we zoomed with those people - getting them to explain their area of expertise. We met a true cross section of America - and some of the topics you’re about to learn about - some of them we’re gonna dive deeper later in the year. But for now, this is Flights of Fancy - where we talk Flightless Bird listeners about the what they want to see on Flightless Bird.

Honest conflicts and problem solving with a lot of humor and heart

I sort of stumbled upon this pod cast, being a long time on-and-off addict (no pun intended ... will over-analyze and contemplate my choice of words and why I speak without filter - much like the host of this particular pod cast, actually) of The Ellen Show, watching Dax being a surpricingly good relationship armchair expert.
Found that both Dax, his absolutely devine wife Kristin and all the guests I’ve listened to so far, brings a lot of great stuff to the table, whether it be thoughts on society as a whole, fame, Hollywood, the human strive and struggle, relationships, nerdiness... or relationships, the child within, being a man, being a woman, parenthood, growing up, addictions, depression YOU NAME IT!

Feels like I have been invited to a dinner or a lazy afternoon with a fresh pot of coffee just being served around, by new acquaintances, and that I am in on the casual and fun but deep flow of conversations that they are all having.

Yep! Dax sure talks a lot and sometimes hogs the conversation, but hey ... he invited us all to dinner/coffee ... and it is his house... He has a lot to say ... AND he IS the Armchair Expert!

Uneven

Some episodes are great! Especially those with different experts as guests. I’m not that fond of the famous guests that are only there to chat and it can get quite silly and iykyk kind of feeling. Never listen to the fact check or other special episodes, so babbling. Warning for very very American at times and hard as a non American to resonate.

The only negative, it’s to few episodes!!!
Keep up the good work.
