Bavarian Podcast Works Postgame Show: Talking points from Bayern Munich’s 4-0 win over Benfica

Bavarian Podcast Works Postgame Show: Talking points from Bayern Munich’s 4-0 win over Benfica

Bayern Munich have just cruised to another win the Champions League group stage, this time scoring four quickfire goals against Portuguese giants SL Benfica. This puts the Bavarians in a commanding position in their group with nine points out of a possible nine. Julian Nagelsmann couldn’t make the game due to a sudden flu, but he’ll be happy with the result his boys managed to get at the Estadio da Luz, the same place where Bayern clinched the treble a little over a year ago.
Here are our talking points from the game:

A recap of the extremely weird formation by Bayern, consisting of a back-three and asymmetrical wingers.

Reviewing player performances from the top, starting with how Leroy Sane has surpassed his Manchester City form under Julian Nagelsmann.

Talking about Marcel Sabitzer’s first start, and how you can’t help but feel disappointed by him so far.

A quick recap of everyone else, including the beating taken by Robert Lewandowski from Otamendi and Vertonghen.

A full breakdown of what’s wrong with Benjamin Pavard, and why the arguments used to defend him don’t hold water.

Closing thoughts on the subs and the clean sheet.

Bavarian Podcast Works: Preview Show — Bayern Munich vs. Benfica (Champions League)

Bavarian Podcast Works: Preview Show — Bayern Munich vs. Benfica (Champions League)

Ah...the Champions League is back, baby!
Bayern Munich will travel to Lisbon, Portugal to take on Benfica in what should be a very entertaining match between an extremely deep and talented squad for the visitors and an experienced, veteran squad in Benfica.
Here is what we have on tap for this episode:

The recent form of both clubs.

A couple of players that Bayern Munich fans should keep an eye on: Darwin Nunez and Julian Weigl. Nunez has been loosely linked to the Bavarians, while Weigl is a one-time Borussia Dortmund and German national team prospect, who seems to have found a comfort zone in Portugal.

A prediction for the lineup and why we could see Lucas Hernandez at eft-back and Marcel Sabitzer filling in for Leon Goretzka.

A prediction on the final score.

Bavarian Podcast Works: Did Nagelsmann pass his big test, how Lucas’s legal trouble affects Bayern, possible depth issues, and more!

An international break just ended and Bayern Munich roared back into action with a dominant 5-1 win over Bayer Leverkusen. This game was supposed to a huge test for Julian Nagelsmann, as Leverkusen were unbeaten in the Bundesliga and were off to one of their best ever starts in the league. Safe to say, die Werkself didn’t put up much of a fight.
In this episode, Tom and Ineednoname discuss:

The outcome of the Leverkusen game, and how convincing Nagelsmann seems so far.

The big positives that we see in the team.

    What improvements are still needed.

How Lucas Hernandez’ legal issues affect Bayern Munich’s image.

What happens if Lucas goes to prison? Discussing the depth issue.

The dead-end careers of both Michael Cuisance and Marc Roca.

Bavarian Podcast Works Postgame Show: Bayern beats direct title rivals Bayer Leverkusen 1 - 5

Bavarian Podcast Works Postgame Show: Bayern beats direct title rivals Bayer Leverkusen 1 - 5

Bayern Munich taught Bayer Leverkusen a lesson in compact, beautiful one-touch football by slotting five goals past them in the first half. Robert Lewandowski got the party started early on in the first half after Bayer Leverkusen’s back-line left Dayot Upamecano open to set up Bayern’s #9. Bayern had to defend quite a bit afterward as Leverkusen went searching for an equalizer. However, Bayern’s back-line would not be breached and remained compact, dealing with the likes of Florian Wirtz, Patrick Schick and Moussa Diaby easily.
There were many star performers in the first half for Bayern but Joshua Kimmich, for the first time in a while, had a fantastic game. He has been solid this season but today showed what Kimmich, a ball-playing, holding midfielder, can do at full strength. Alphonso Davies started and did incredibly well; Leverkusen could not deal with him. Bayern’s goals came courtesy of Robert Lewandowski (2), Thomas Müller and Serge Gnabry (2).
