Birth Doula who works in Black Maternal Health through LEAD with Jennifer McLean - S7 E55

    -  I am not a parent, but  I am a DONA International certified Birth Doula working in North Carolina - I did not learn about what a doula was until the age of 26 years old in graduate school. Once I learned about the field, it instantly clicked for me. I've always been fascinated with birth but never wanted to be a nurse or doctor. - I had some fears around becoming a labor support doula and not having gone through childbirth but my training reassured me that I was able to do the job - I learned of the Alliance of Black Doulas for Black Mamas (which was rebranded to LEADDoula) through an email listserv that a friend sent me, because she knew I wanted to be doula - ABDBM or LEAD was strictly for Black women who wanted to become doulas, and was focused on serving black birthing people and their families - It was a 6 week program with culturally tailored education, included all required DONA International training to become certified, and afterwards, we were required to serve as doula for at least 3 births to be eligible for DONA certification  - Between the program and my own clients, I've had 13 births - Fun fact: My first birth was a cesarean section  - I love serving as a birth doula because of the relationships I have built with the moms and families I've served. Being with a woman at her most intimate and vulnerable time of childbirth is such a special gift FIND HER HERE:linkedin.com/in/jnmclean3

Speech Therapist, Becoming A Parent, Reiki, & Conscious Parenting Podcast with Carrie Lingenfelter - S7 E52

I was previously an educator and early child interventionist speech therapist but was brought to my knees when I became a parent I tried to fit into the box of what parenting should be like but realized that I needed to follow my own heart and gut feelings as well as my child's cues about sleep schedule, nursing times, and other parenting pieces right from the start of becoming a parent I learned to throw out the parenting books which really made me so nervous about labor and delivery- but it wasn't until after I had my first baby. Luckily, I grew so much in that first experience that I was in such a different place with my second baby. I got to have a mother's blessing before having my second baby and even though she came a month early and was in the NICU for a couple of days, we had such a better experience because we were all connected with ourselves and with each other, including the connection between my husband and myself I love sharing these pieces with the listeners of my podcast and other podcasts so that parents can look at empowering themselves and hearing their own hearts and guts before they even have kids. We can get so swept up in trying to stick inside of society's box of how we should parent even during our pregnancies I host a conscious parenting podcast where we provide parents tools for raising mindful children. I was an educator and early intervention speech therapist before having my two spirited, gifted, highly sensitive, and neurodivergent kids. I love connecting with other parents who are also raising conscious kids so that we don't feel alone in our parenting journeys.  FIND HER HERE: https://hearttoheartlife.myflodesk.com/hearttoheartlife https://hearttoheartlife.com/ https://instagram.com/hearttoheartparentspodcast https://youtube.com/@hearttoheartparentspodcast?si=ZU_czMCjqzzLaW4y https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61554482625081

C-Section, Son Needed Craniotomy, Strokes, and Speech Therapy with Jeaneen Tang S7 E48

Had my son when I was 36 years old in 2012.  Very long labor that ended up being a c-section.  My son was very healthy and normally developing until he was 13 months old. He had a fall from our bed, just 18" off the ground, and suffered a large brain bleed.  He had an emergency craniotomy and a few days later he had a stroke.  He'll be 12 years old on 10/19/2024. He still has no functional use of his right arm or hand, but has accomplished so much.  Being a speech therapist was key in early intervention for my son.  I continue to use my over 20 years of experience to help my son and other children.  BIO: Jeaneen Tang, speech-language pathologist and mother of a special needs child. Along with her over 20 years of experience working with children and adults with neurodiversity, she also has an 11 year old son who is neurodivergent. He suffered a traumatic brain injury and stroke at 13 months old. Her personal and professional relationship with this amazing population has forever changed her. She hopes to change their world too.  She recently published her first book called PLAY DUMB & SABOTAGE. It addresses early language development and is meant to be helpful for parents, caregivers, and educators to work with young children and hopefully decrease the number of children needing speech therapy. Through preventative training, she believes we can achieve success and raise confident communicators.  FIND HER HERE: www.playdumbandsabotage.com https://www.linkedin.com/in/jeaneen-tang-707a6730?utm_source=share&utm_campaign=share_via&utm_content=profile&utm_medium=ios_app https://www.instagram.com/jt808/ https://www.instagram.com/playdumbandsabotage/ https://www.facebook.com/jeaneen.tang
