    Peter, the Denier

    Peter, the Denier

Although Simon Peter loved Jesus of Nazareth in the hour of trial when Peter from the courtyard was identified as a follower of Jesus, he denied even knowing him! How could this happen? The tragic denial by Peter is recorded in all four gospel narratives. How can the designated leader of the apostles and the confessor of Jesus' messiahship deny even knowing him?

    Peter, the Confessor of Jesus

    Peter, the Confessor of Jesus

The Apostle Peter is the great example of a true confessor of Jesus Christ. In Matthew 16:16, in answer to Jesus' question to his disciples as to who people were saying he was, Peter declared, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."
On another occasion in John 6, after many of the followers of Jesus were deserting him, Jesus asked his disciples if they, too, would leave him. Peter answered, "Lord, to whom shall be go? You have the words of eternal life, and we have believed, and come to know that you are the Holy One of God" (John 6:69).
This bold declaration and confession of Jesus as the Christ, the Son of God, marked Peter's preaching  as he led the early church in the same confession of Jesus .
Peter's untiring confession of the Lordship of Christ led to his own martyrdom. Likewise many true confessors of Jesus are suffering for their loyalty to declare the truth today.
In a world in desperate need of hearing the Gospel, may we likewise not be hesitant to declare and confess that "Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God."

    Jesus Brings Life and Immortality

    Jesus Brings Life and Immortality

Paul writes to Timothy concerning our Lord Jesus. God,  who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was granted us in Christ Jesus from all eternity, 10 but now has been revealed by the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel . 2 Timothy 1:9-10
Jesus in his incarnation abolished death and brought life and immortality.  To explore the meaning of this work of Christ Jesus we need to ask and answer two questions.  Where or in whom is eternal life? When does eternal life begin. Second Jesus is referred to as the firstfruits from the dead and the firstborn of and from the dead.
Revelation 1:5 and from Jesus Christ the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of kings on earth. To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood
     Colossians 1:18
And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent.

What does this mean and what bearing does it have on us and the resurrection from the dead?

    Jesus Bestows the Spirit

    Jesus Bestows the Spirit

The day of Jesus' resurrection was very busy with his comings and goings to several people and climaxed in the evening with his first appearance to a group of ten of his apostles.
Jesus is raised in the physical body of incarnation and death which is now raised an immortal body. Jesus bestows his peace upon the disciples. He then gives his commission, "as the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you." Having said this he breathed on them and said, "Receive the Holy Spirit."  This poses several questions that call an answer.

    God the Immortal

    God the Immortal

A most unique attribute of the living God, Yahweh, is his immortality. Christians many times use this term incorrectly.  The Bible says God alone is immortal.

    1 Timothy 1:17
To the King of the ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.

    1 Timothy 6:13-16
13 I command you, in the sight of God who gives life to all things and Christ Jesus who testified the good confession before Pontius Pilate, 14 that you observe the commandment without fault, irreproachable until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15 which he will make known in his own time, the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of those who reign as kings and Lord of those who rule as lords, 16 the one who alone possesses immortality, who lives in unapproachable light, whom no human being has seen nor is able to see, to whom be honor and eternal power. Amen.

An early Christian hymn expresses ,
Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One
God is the blessed and only Sovereign,
     the King of kings,
     and the Lord of lords,
16 the only One who has immortality,
     dwelling in unapproachable light;
no one has seen or can see Him.
