I came for Everdell, found TRV and stayed for you!
Hi and thank you for a great podcast!
I’ve played some board games during my life, with focus on early 2000’s eurogames like Catan, Caracassone and so on. Magic the Gathering have been with me for a large portion of my life, but during recent years with small children I haven’t prioritized playing at all. I recently came back to more board gaming and a friend introduced med to Everdell at the behinning of 2024. So as I usually do with a new interest I scanned the web for resources on the game and stumbled upon your podcast, among others.
I really liked the way you communicate and you gave me the kind of input I was looking for. I listened on a few episodes of several podcasts about board games but yours is the only one that stuck.
Oh boy, am I glad it did?! Not my wallet though…
The excitement you had when you talked about Thunder Road Vendetta got me intrigued so I watched and listened to all content I could get hold on. I got hooked and decided to buy the game, but it was completely out of stock here in Sweden.
Luckily for me the second Kickstarter was just about to go live so I went all in with the big deal of the day and was one of the first 300 backers for the game.
Even though I once more listened to other podcasts for TRV content I still kept leaning towards you guys. Maybe I haven’t found them all but your podcast is the only one that got me hooked.
For me it’s the way you talk to each other, how you all live ordinary lives with ordinary problems and a friendly tone.
So far I’ve listened to all episodes for 2024 and 2020, working my way to listen to all episodes made. Most games aren’t for me but I really like to hear your voices when I commute.
Keep up the good work!
Best regards
Erik
Despite everything, it’s great
Why despite everything? Well, they are basically the polar opposite of me. They hate Marvel United (a top-3 game for me with 100+ plays). They love Terraforming Mars (a bottom-3 game for me that I dread playing every time). At least one guy hates coops (coops make up 80% of my collection and are my favorite type of game). They love Euro multiplayer solitaire games (I want as much conflict as possible in games and am quickly bored by MPS) and dislike Rising Sun (a game that blew me away because of the incredible negotiation and bluffing aspect, and is my favorite conflict game). Despite all this, I still listen to this podcast. Why? The hosts are interesting and their banter is fun, they have reasonable non-hyperbolic discussions about stuff they like AND dislike, and basically the podcast is just fun to listen to. So despite everything, it’s great!
