But his journey is marked by much more than his roots. Raised by a determined 17-year-old mom, Jonathan's story is one of resilience and determination. In this episode, we delve into his inspiring path into the world of nonprofits. Jonathan's educational journey took him from the halls of ARUSD through middle school to a private Jesuit high school and college, shaping his perspective and igniting his passion for community service. Today, Jonathan Borca is a dedicated advocate, a captivating storyteller, and a dynamic performing artist. He currently serves as the Deputy Director for the School of Arts and Culture at the Mexican Heritage Plaza, affectionately known as La Plaza. With over a decade of experience in developing and scaling programs for nonprofits and public entities, Jonathan has left an indelible mark on the California Arts Council Administrators of Color Fellowship, an initiative aimed at fostering an inclusive workforce. In June 2022, his commitment to the arts and culture of San Jose was further affirmed when he was appointed Arts Commissioner for the City of San Jose by D5 Councilmember Magdalena Carrasco. But Jonathan's creativity extends beyond his professional life. In his free time, he channels his energy into local art and music projects, serving as the resident emcee for the 7th Street Big Band, weaving rap and poetry into the harmonious fabric of jazz ensembles, and producing intergenerational three-act concert experiences like the "Francis Experience." Recently, he embarked on a mission to celebrate BIPOC creatives, small businesses, and producers through his music and art series, Colour Me GOLD.
