There is no way to talk about the way my dad parented without giving a lot of attention to his emphasis on God's Word. The four of us boys were blessed indeed by a father and mother who held scripture in a very high regard.

Dad has preached the Gospel in a lot of places. A LOT! This episode is an absolute treasure as I hear him chronicle every stop from 1969 to 2009.

Dad's familiarity with failure is only exceeded by his familiarity with perseverance. Listen to our conversation about how his academic failures lead to some very good things.

In this episode, Dad talks about two very different sides of his trauma. As a child, he grew up with parents who abused alcohol. As an adult, he had some very difficult experiences as a preacher. Growing up, I certainly wasn't aware of how difficult his childhood was but hearing about it has certainly increased by empathy for him tenfold. As always, thank you for listening. 

Dad and I have a great conversation about how his creativity is expressed. From performing at school to letting his articles serve as a life changing catalyst, he certainly has a lot to offer. 

On March 4-8, 1968, Joe Tomlinson, JR. was blessed to be a part of something much larger than him. Coming from a place where non-whites weren't welcome to a place of active reconciliation, he followed Jesus in order to help black men and women sit down with white men and women together.
