Here is Andrea's cold contact to her current PhD advisor when she first researched out to him in 2012 that she mentions during this episode:
Dear Professor ___________,
I am a first year graduate student. I saw your talk today and thought it was very interesting. I have been interested in chaotic dynamics and complex systems and would like to work on a project that is both theoretical and experimental, possibly leaning a bit more to theoretical. I have not done any previous research work in this area, though in the past I have taken a nonlinear dynamics course and a chaos course which are what got me originally interested in this field. I am also interested in being involved in outreach, which you said briefly that you were involved in. You mentioned that you were looking for students. Do you mind setting up a time to talk with me? Thank you for your time, Andrea Welsh
