    10/02/21 - Forward Talk w/ Andrew Yang

    10/02/21 - Forward Talk w/ Andrew Yang

Andrew Yang’s new book, Forward, is out in stores now. During his book signing party, he took some time to discuss the book and his idea for a new political party with Esther.

The Forward Party is nonpartisan, diverse, and inclusive. Not Left nor Right, just Forward for a better us, better family, better country, and a better world. Everyone is welcome. Good vibes only.

    ---------------

    About The Author:

Andrew Yang was a 2020 Democratic presidential candidate and a 2021 candidate for mayor of New York City. Named by President Obama as a Presidential Ambassador of Global Entrepreneurship, he is the founder of the organizations Humanity Forward and Venture for America. Yang’s 2018 New York Times bestselling book The War on Normal People about the threat of technology-driven job automation helped introduce the concept of universal basic income into the political mainstream.

    About The Book:

FORWARD: Notes on the Future of Our Democracy by Andrew Yang (on sale 10/5) offers a vivid account of what running for president is really like and a scathing indictment of America’s “era of institutional failure.” As our institutions fail to keep pace with technological change, tech platforms supplant our will and feast on our data, ensuring that Americans grow more polarized. In FORWARD, Yang introduces readers to the various “priests of American decline,” most especially politicians whose incentives have become divorced from the people they serve, arguing that a series of reforms, including data rights, ranked-choice voting, and fact-based governance empowered by modern technology, are the “skeleton key” to jumpstarting political and economic systems that are breaking down.

The machinery of American democracy is failing, Yang argues, and we need bold new ideas to rewire it for twenty-first-century problems. Inspired by his experience running for office and as an entrepreneur, and by ideas drawn from leading thinkers, Yang offers a series of solutions, including data rights, ranked-choice voting, and fact-based governance empowered by modern technology, writing that “there is no cavalry”—it’s up to us. FORWARD is a powerful and urgent warning that we must step back from the brink and plot a new way forward for our democracy.

An audiobook edition, read by Yang, will be released simultaneously by Penguin Random House Audio.

    08/06/21 - A Vision For NYC w/ Alvin Bragg

    08/06/21 - A Vision For NYC w/ Alvin Bragg

Alvin Bragg, our first African-American Manhattan District Attorney Democratic candidate, shares his vision on how to make New York City safer and better.

Alvin Bragg: A lifetime of hard work, courage and demanding justice. A son of Central Harlem and a husband and father raising two children here, Alvin Bragg has spent the better part of two decades in the courtroom, standing up to the powerful and fighting to get justice. Most recently, Alvin served as the Chief Deputy Attorney General in New York State where he oversaw some of the office’s biggest cases, including suing Harvey Weinstein and his company for the existence of a hostile work environment; challenging the Trump administration over the census for its inclusion of a citizenship question; and bringing significant criminal charges in bribery, securities fraud, and Medicaid fraud matters. Previously Alvin served as Executive Deputy Attorney General (EDAG) for Social Justice and organized and served as the first Chief of a special unit that investigated police-involved killings. He won significant settlement agreements in matters concerning discriminatory redlining, tenant harassment, wage and hour violations, unlawful discrimination by employers based on applicants’ criminal history records, unlawful business practices by health insurance companies and led an investigation revealing that only three percent of the approximately 2.4 million Stop and Frisk stops by the NYPD between 2009 and 2012 resulted in convictions and only .1 percent of the stops resulted in convictions for a violent crime. Prior to the Attorney General’s Office, Alvin served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Criminal Division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York. He successfully prosecuted corrupt politicians, both Democrat and Republican, and obtained trial verdicts convicting the owner of a multi-million dollar business for laundering millions of dollars for an international drug cartel, a lawyer for mortgage fraud involving millions of dollars of losses to financial institutions, an FBI agent for making false statements, and individuals blocking a reproductive health facility in violation of the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act. Alvin is now a Visiting Professor of Law and Co-Director of the Racial Justice Project at New York Law School where his research and coursework focus on the intersection of criminal law and civil rights, prosecutorial discretion and accountability, and the functions of state Attorneys General. Alvin earned his A.B. in Government (cum laude, general studies) from Harvard and a J.D. from Harvard Law School. He was on the first-place team in the Ames Moot Court Competition and was an editor for the Harvard Civil Rights-Civil Liberties Law Review. He is also now representing the family of Eric Garner in a case against the mayor seeking key details about Mr. Garner’s death. Alvin is a member of the Board of Directors of The Legal Aid Society, a former member of the Board of Directors of the New York Urban League, and a Sunday School teacher at the Abyssinian Baptist Church. He lives in Harlem with his wife Jamila and two children. Don't forget to subscribe, like, turn on notifications so you will be notified for more informational interviews.
