    Episode #6 - Big Rick

    Episode #6 - Big Rick

Big Rick is originally from Evansville, IN and has done his fair share of jumping around.  Unlike other episodes where we put context to a jock's resume, Rick and I really dove into the current state of radio and what radio will look like in the future.  We had some good laughs, some deep insight, and shared some radio stories about working for small and large companies.

One of my favorite parts of this interview was our shared experience with launching the Nash brand in markets very far away from Nashville.

Make sure you follow Rick on Twitter & Facebook at @OnTheAirWithRick and his current station in Bowling Green, KY @Goober951

    Episode #5 - Leah Klocko

    Episode #5 - Leah Klocko

This is what I was hoping the podcast would merge into.  Sure, Leah and I talked about radio, but we really went off on a number of topics that I think you'll enjoy.

Leah Klocko is a very rare type of radio personality.  She grew up in Pittsburgh and never worked in a market outside of Pittsburgh.  Now out of radio like me, what is she up to?  We worked together for 3 years on Froggy and we always wanted to do a show together.  We finally got to do that with this episode.

She is such a warm, interesting, and encouraging woman, you'll soon realize what makes her so unique.  Enjoy!

    Episode #4 - Jim Lenaway

    Episode #4 - Jim Lenaway

What was it like working in radio after WWII?  Jim Lenaway takes us through the incredible career of his father, Guy Willie.  Now, Jim worked in radio too, but we spent the bulk of the podcast talking about some amazing stories of his father's career.

The story about Gene Autry's wife is unbelievable... His work with Connie B. Gay is legendary... his run-ins with Bill Cosby & Arnold Palmer makes this podcast a real gem.

We had a lot of laughs... and I think you will too.

    Episode #3 - Erika Kay

    Episode #3 - Erika Kay

Unlike my previous 3 podcasts (Episodes 0-2), Erika Kay is still working in radio.  In Tulsa, OK on two stations: KVOO & KHTT.  On the air, she goes as Nikki Reid.  How she got that name is quickly revealed.

You'll learn what it takes to make it in this business in 2019.  You have to be an "everything person," meaning, you have to be able to do everything, work anything during any shift, and still hope that sliding into a PD's DM's makes the difference between a job or no job.

Why Erika got into radio is "comic"al, why she stayed in Oklahoma was heartwarming, and how she met Pete Buttigieg is pretty wild too.

    Episode #2 - Johnny O

    Episode #2 - Johnny O

Johnny O's voice has echoed through the Upper Ohio Valley (Southeastern Ohio, Northern Panhandle of WV, & Southwestern PA) for decades!  You would be hard pressed to find someone that HASN'T heard of Johnny O.  He's one of the rare breeds that did the radio DJing AND the mobile DJing.  He and I worked together in 2005 when I was first hired for my first full-time gig at 100.5 WOMP-FM.  Stuff that he taught me then stuck with me all the way through my career.

In this episode, I learned a lot of stuff that I didn't already know... and some old classics like his Kenny G story.

It was great to snag such a big fish for this small pod.  Enjoy!

    Episode #1 - Jimmy Roach

    Episode #1 - Jimmy Roach

Jimmy Roach is to Pittsburgh radio as Mr. Rogers is to PBS

Sounds like a crazy statement, right?  Not really, if you think about it.  For decades, Jimmy Roach was a friend to Pittsburgh radio listeners.  Not only a friend, but a neighbor.

With stops at WDVE, WRRK, Y108, Froggy, and back to Y108, Jimmy Roach was the most genuine voice you'll ever find on the airwaves.

We joked that this could have been a 12 episode series... Let's just say, it probably won't be the last time I have him on the pod.
