She is Becoming.. Jimiliz. 

This episode, we chat with Dr. Jimiliz Valiente - Neighbours. Qlehd and Hanna met Dr. V at Point Loma Nazarene University, where she keenly welcomes all Point Loma students with wide arms and celebration. At Loma, she’s “mother-ed” the student body - opening up traditionally taboo conversations, encouraging curiosity, and continually pointing back to the purpose and power of education. In this episode, she shares about her personal experience with: pregnancy loss, infertility, parenthood, tenure, and health journey. Her path of becoming is a testament to the brazen and beautiful ability to simultaneously hold space for the past, present, and future. Courage and bold prayers of hope bring her forward as she learns how to honor her name, her body and her family.

She is Becoming... Home. In this episode, we chat with Jessica Hong. Qlehd and Hanna met Jessica at Point Loma Nazarene University, where Jess worked (and shared so many nuggets of wisdom!) in Residential Life. Her journey of becoming encapsulates the notion of coming home to oneself and allowing oneself to boldly take ownership of any and all spaces they may indwell. Jess reminds us that the intentionality exerted to create safety and belonging for others is also vital to our own well-being. Cultivating "home" is not exclusive to the invitation we extend to others; we can be recipients of sacred spaces in our community.  Home is found in spaces where we allow ourselves to co-exist with others and honor the ways in which we too are taking space. Home witnesses both grief and joy; as it seeks to understand, learn, grow, and celebrate. She is Becoming... Present. This episode, we chat with M'Lynn Martin. Hanna and Qlehd were introduced to M'Lynn when she served as Point Loma Nazarene University's Director of Spiritual Life. M'Lynn and her story are an encouragement in how to walk boldly and honestly with the church. She is a woman who enters vulnerable spaces brazenly and fights to grow the table - seeking justice, evolving boundaries, and shepherding a community of both younger and older peers. 

In this episode, M'Lynn talks reputation, escapism, the realization that she hasn't allowed herself to be happy, and why SpongeBob is her go-to TV show. It's not her awareness of the limitations of her circumstances, but her fierce pursuit of holiness, justice, and vulnerability that sets her apart. M'Lynn encourages us to choose presence, choose courage, choose hard conversations, choose wrestling with boundaries, and choose granting yourself permission to live life.
