Three Expats. Three Perspectives. Sutanya Dacres, Dinner For One Podcast

Three Expats. Three Perspectives. Sutanya Dacres, Dinner For One Podcast

In the first installment of our series "Three Expats. Three Perspectives." we speak with Sutanya Dacres, host of the Dinner For One podcast. Suntanya discusses her journey from the island of Jamaica to New York and on to Paris. Billed as "An audio exploration of what happens when the Paris fairytale ends and real life begins," Dinner For One is -- like it's host -- honest, direct and holds nothing back.  In that vein we discuss everything from coping with divorce in a foreign country, race, loneliness, Jamaican beef patties and Dominican hairdressers!

Demystifying the French (and France) with Author Janet Hulstrand

Demystifying the French (and France) with Author Janet Hulstrand

In this episode we are joined by Janet Hulstrand, author of Demystifying the French, How to Love Them and Make Them Love You. Janet splits her time between the United States and Essoyes (population 750), in France's Champagne region. It is that experience that gave rise to France-based writers workshops and her latest book.

Aimed at first-time visitors to France and expatriates. Demystifying helps readers avoid common mistakes and get off on the right foot with the French. It begins with five essential tips "for even brief encounters" by introducing a few French phrases that will pave the way for a positive experience in France. The tips are followed by 10 chapters that go into a deeper explanation of French habits, manners, and ways of viewing the world. Janet shares the perspective she has gained in nearly 40 years of time spent living, working, teaching, and traveling in France, and illustrates the principles she is discussing with sometimes touching, and often amusing, personal anecdotes.

To learn more about Janet Halstrand's books and her writers workshops visit https://janethulstrand.com/ or https://wingedword.wordpress.com/.

A Hemingway in Paris with Claudine Hemingway

A Hemingway in Paris with Claudine Hemingway

In this episode we meet event producer, tour guide, writer and aspiring expat Claudine Hemingway.

Yes, she is related to the author Ernest Hemingway, but her love of Paris is thanks to her grandfather. Hear how his travels inspired Claudine and led her to develop her own travel consulting and tour enterprise, Bleu Blonde Rouge. An avid solo traveler who visits Paris three times a year, Claudine’s first trip to Paris was thanks to the generosity of a dear friend.

Claudine’s explorations of Paris and love of history are reflected throughout her Instagram feed and in her articles for Bonjour Paris.
