In which I grab a bottle of kombucha and sit down with two of my favorite creative friends to talk about not being able to snap with both hands, plucking gray hairs, the merits of Hot Cross Buns, getting startled by clouds, singing in the drive-thru, shopping in the children’s section, not recognizing each other in the Target dressing rooms, suppressing memories, and then I dodge a question. In which I chronicle my first 3 days of an indefinite and entirely impulsive hiatus from Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter (not that I was ever using Twitter in the first place) and something else I think... Pretty sure I’m forgetting something. Hang in here; it gets worse before it gets better. The book I mentioned is Silence (In the Age of Noise) by Erling Kagge and it’s a rather quick read but super powerful. Highly recommend. The phrase ‘dopamine loop’ is technically ‘the dopamine seeking-reward loop’ but googling dopamine loop will bring up pertinent info. I also mention Improv Everywhere improveverywhere.com and Westobou westoboufestival.com. You should take part in an Improv Everywhere scene if you have the opportunity and check out the Westobou Festival if you’re able to travel to Augusta.
