Podcast 51: Ōsōji – Year end cleaning

In Japan, the tradition of “大掃除” (Ōsōji), meaning “big cleaning,” takes place at the end of the year. This cultural practice involves a thorough cleaning of homes, workplaces, and public spaces to bid farewell to the old year and welcome the new one with a fresh start. Families engage in deep cleaning, decluttering, and organizing to symbolize leaving behind the past and preparing for a clean slate in the coming year. It is a shared activity that fosters a sense of renewal and harmony within the family, work colleagues and community.

Amazing podcast!

Hello from Sweden! Thank you for a great podcast! I’ve really found it helpful for learning casual everyday Japanese :)

Best

This is by far the best ”learn Japanese” podcast I’ve listened to. They are the only ones who make it entertaining and it’s not feeling like a boring grammar class. Wish they would do more episodes though.

Informative & Friendly!

This is so much better then most podcasts who just throw japanese out there with a monotone voice and leaves it at that. i love the friendliness of this whole pod, and it makes me feel like i'm in the room! In my class I took, the teacher was wonderful but we learnt from such a strict book I forgot the words instantly the day after.. Alao the extra file with every episode is brilliant.
