    The Newtro trend

    The Newtro trend

Hello, hello! Welcome to this week's episode.

On today's episode, Tom breaks down during the recording after we discuss about the story of Korean singer Yang Joon-il, also dubbed as the 90's G-Dragon.

If you're not aware of his story, the singer was an up and coming singer brought from America to Korea. He wasn't very fluent in Korean and used to incorporate a lot of English into his music at a time where Korea's relationship with the English speaking world was not looked at positively. He was literally unfairly kicked out of the country due to his English. He went back to America and became an English teacher before spending most of his life as a waiter in a restaurant.

Thanks to a trend in Korea called 'Newtro' millennials discovered the G-Dragon lookalike and learnt about his story. His story touched the nation and a search began to search for him. After a gruelling long search, a TV show in Korea found the singer and he was able to perform his songs again after 30 years.

We also talk about the Super Bowl half time and how Shakira and Jennifer Lopez KILLED it. Plus, there's a Christian activist who's trying to sue them for trillions of dollars for the 'inappropriate' performance - his words, not ours.

There was also a 90's magazine competition running and the prize was the opportunity to 'sleep' with US President Donald Trump. Any takers?

AND FINALLY, we discuss the rules of texting. If you're texter, make sure you follow these rules!

Why Taylor Swift talking about her eating disorder is important

Why Taylor Swift talking about her eating disorder is important

    Hello our juicy lemons!

This week we have finally recovered and feeling like crap on last episode (we had one hour's sleep and put together the show last minute, sorry!)

On today's episode, we talk about the recovery from our trip in China and how we actually thought we had the coronavirus. Thomas was showing similar symptoms and so he went to the hospital and was isolated. Long story short, we freaked out for no reason and it turned out to be a different kind of virus.

    Here's what discussed this week:

James Corden responds to reports that he actually doesn’t drive in Car Pool Karaoke

Late night talk show host James Corden has responded to rumours that actually doesn’t drive in his hit segment Car Pool Karaoke.

A video of him and Justin Bieber filming a segment went viral this week of their car getting towed. It was viewed more than 13m times.

He said on-air that he is normally driving unless the segment required some dangerous things such as dancing or required a lot of attention.

In this case, the segment with JB was towed because producers thought it would be more safe.

Taylor Swift Talks About Eating Disorders in New Netflix Doc: Why That Matters
Taylor Swift’s new documentary on Netflix has dropped and she made several candid revelations about her life.

The singer reveals that she’s now learnt to not look pictures of herself every day because it can trigger her.

"You don't ever say to yourself, 'I have an eating disorder,' but you know you're making a list of everything that you put in your mouth that day and you know that's probably not right, but then again there's so many diet blogs that tell you that's what you should," she says.

HBO to remake ‘Parasite’ into English series
HBO has announced that they’ll be re-making Bong Joon-ho’s blockbuster hit ‘Parasite’ into an English series.

The news comes after the Korean film has broken records left and right and scoring nominations and wins at the Academy Awards, Golden Globes and SAGs awards. Why does Hollywood have to keep re-making Asian cinema and not just appreciate it for what it is?

Bong’s speech at Golden Globes: “Once you overcome the 1-inch-tall barrier of subtitles, you will be introduced to so many more amazing films.”

Billie Eilish got the iconic sound in 'Bad Guy' from Sydney!!

While the Grammy Award winner chatted to Rolling Stone recently about her hit song 'Bad Guy', she revealed the inspiration behind the famous tune.

She said that she was out for a walk in Sydney crossing the road with her mum before hearing the ‘doop doop’ waiting sound at the crossing.

She recorded the tune and brought it back to her brother and incorporated it into ‘bad guy’.

Does Anyone Have a ‘Personal Life’ Anymore?

How do you respond when someone asks you ‘what do you do in your personal life?’

We recently came across an essay which talked about whether or not ‘personal life’ existed anymore in this day and age due to the rise of social media, people turning hobbies into hustles, finding ways to make their lives more efficient and turning their selves into ‘brands’.

So what does a personal life in this day and age mean?

The coronavirus is not your hall pass to be racist

The coronavirus is not your hall pass to be racist

    On this episode we discuss:
    - Our trip to China and Vietnam and how we got scammed MULTIPLE times
    - We also catch up on the biggest pop culture news since our break;
    - THE HARRY & MEGHAN MARKLE ROYAL EXIT - the low down of what exactly happened
    - The Brad P**t and Jennifer Aniston reunion - is it OK to feel proud of an ex who did you wrong?
    - YouTube Guru NikkiTutorials being blackmailed and being forced to come out as trans. It's never OKAY to force someone to come out when they're not ready!
    - Coronavirus - it's the virus that has multiple cities in lock down in China. We discuss about the racist commentary online and why people need to stop wishing death on Chinese people because they 'deserve' it for eating exotic animals.

Phil recommends watching The Morning Show starring Jennifer Anniston on Apple TV and watching the GIRL, INTERPRETED series featuring our gal Jenny Zhou on YouTube or Tencent.

CHAT: How to start a viral blog and donut empire with Phillip Kuoch

CHAT: How to start a viral blog and donut empire with Phillip Kuoch

    HELLO!

We're back! Hope everyone enjoyed their break - we certainly did! This episode is a bit different because we recorded it while we were pre-gaming/pre-drinking before a night out, so the episode is a bit wild.

During our break we were featured by Apple Podcasts and Castbox so we thought we would start the year with a little chit chat with ourselves instead of a special guest so that our lovely new listeners can get to know us a bit!

We did record a get-to-know episode with our other co-host Tom but we decided at the last hour to pull the episode because he wasn't ready to tell his story yet.

ANYWAY - in this episode you will get to know our other co-host Phillip Kuoch who at the age of 15 started a viral k-pop blog called hellokpop, which at it's peak had 4 million monthly readers.

He then went on to start his own doughnut empire called Goldeluck's Doughnuts.

We'll let Phil do the talking because he certainly rambles on a lot when he's tipsy...

Sorry Margaret, guests need to take off their shoes in my house

Sorry Margaret, guests need to take off their shoes in my house

On this week's episode the LEMON, we discuss:

    - The new 'Mulan' trailer and why it probably won't be a box office hit in China
    - How Gabrielle Union spoke up about racism on behind the scenes of 'America's Got Talent' and then being dropped after one season of judging on the show.
    - Why Mena Massoud hasn't been offered any auditions after starring as the titular character on Aladdin, which has grossed more than 1 billion dollars at the box office.
    - ALSO, why is the internet pissed at a women named Margaret for wearing shoes in the house? Clue: she refuses to take them off because it'd ruin her outfit
