What motivates us to choose the books we read? What do we miss when we limit our reading to non-fiction?
"Let There Be Lit" is a show where we examine classic works of literature through the lens of biblical truth. Our passion is for fellow believers in Christ to ignite their imaginations and create a sense of empathy through the art of reading. Ep.0.3: Gone with the Wind

It’s one of the bestselling books of all time, has been translated into 35 languages, sold hundreds of millions of copies worldwide, won a Pulitzer Prize, and the film version earned eight Academy Awards in 1939. Margaret Mitchell’s Gone with the Wind is, by definition, a successful, influential work of fiction that’s been absorbed into American pop culture. But what if that influence comes at the expense of historical accuracy or, even worse, at the expense of an entire people group? In this Southern epic novel, what do we miss when the African-American perspective can only be interpreted through the perspective of their masters? Listen in as we discuss, criticize and reframe Gone with the Wind.

    Ep. 0.2: Frankenstein

    Ep. 0.2: Frankenstein

“Of what a strange nature is knowledge! It clings to the mind, when it has once seized on it, like a lichen on the rock” (100).
The weight of knowledge and the power it wields--this is one of the main dilemmas Mary Shelley offers up in her monumental novel, Frankenstein. Who’s the real monster in this story? What are our obligations to create and be responsible for that creation? How do we practically submit every part of our lives to the finished work of the cross?

    Intro - The WHY

    Intro - The WHY

Classic lit and Jesus--sound weird to you?

If you consider yourself a Christian, what kinds of books are you most likely to have sitting on your nightstands or bookshelves? Nonfiction? Christian fiction? Are the shelves pretty bare these days?

Allie and Sydney kick off the podcast by advocating for Christians to expand their comfort zones and try out a genre that can often be overlooked--classic literature. In this intro, we will discuss:

What classics (and cult classics) do for our minds and spirits
Why it may be good for us to experience this form of art as believers
How we can bring redemption and draw out God's beauty as we read

Let us know what books you want us to discuss for future episodes!
