Marcy Langlois: Surviving Trauma and Embracing Life

Marcy Langlois has a remarkable story of hope, resilience
and recovery from almost unsurmountable challenges. Starting from early childhood, she underwent more than twenty surgical procedures to address her cleft lip and
palate.  As Marcy progressed through Catholic grade school, she then had to confront another layer of
self-discovery: her attraction to girls rather than boys. Confusion and shame about her sexuality reinforced  already entrenched beliefs of being worthless and unlovable.

And then began a decade-long struggle with alcoholism that resulted in the loss of employment, devastated relationships, and a battle with chronic illness that nearly cost her life.

But then at the age of 27, her amazing journey of recovery
began by embracing sobriety . Today she lives a life filled with self-love and contentment. She and her wife have cultivated a beautiful, lasting relationship for over twenty years. Professionally, Marcy has achieved remarkable success as a Mortgage Banker and Vice President in the banking industry and now works at a top mortgage banking business.

Truth of the Heart: Reflections from a Camino

Truth of the Heart: Reflections from a Camino

Just having completed the Camino Aragonese pilgrimage route in northwestern Spain, I was deeply inspired by the diverse landscapes, rich vegetation, and the symphony of nature that emerges when human noise recedes.

Immersing oneself in nature reveals the interconnectedness of all living beings. Nature is an
expression of the divine, with diversity as a fundamental principle of creation. There are many different
ways individuals define God, mostly narrowed down to fixed concepts, forms and beliefs. My personal view is that God is formless universal consciousness
beyond the understanding in rational terms.

    Often people would start
walking the Camino as hikers and end it as pilgrims with a different
consciousness. Spending time in nature opens awareness to the harmony and the
order of things beyond what is perceived with the rational mind as chaos.

You cannot understand God with thought or belief. I’ve discussed with many pilgrims on the Camino
their thoughts about religion and spirituality. Many who describe themselves as non-religious still felt a deep sense of awe and feeling of alignment with
something much bigger than can be described with words. It is the spiritual dimension, that give purpose and meaning to life.

When you are aligned you become a conscious part of the interconnectedness of life beyond the world of
    external appearances.

In times when external voices grow increasingly loud with hate-filled tribalism and ethnocentricity, the truth of the heart becomes paramount.

    Pushback from dark forces

    Pushback from dark forces

Human memory can be very short with the sense of historical perspective easily lost in an age of information overflow when social media confirms your beliefs
and feeds you the information you want to hear.

Western societies have enjoyed unprecedented freedom and prosperity for almost eight decades. Hardly any eyewitnesses and holocaust survivors are left
who can attest to the horrors of World War II and how catastrophic and apocalyptic authoritarian forces can be to humanity.

There is a wide sense of complacency as extremist groups are becoming mainstream exploiting global fears and uncertainties to push an agenda that threatens all our basic freedoms and values, hindering humanity's collective progress.

Is life today really as bad as the forces of manipulation want us to believe?

    Community, Longevity and Happiness

    Community, Longevity and Happiness

Happiness is a state of mind, often based on those small joys of life that wield immense power to our sense of bliss.

    Society incessantly indoctrinates us
that acquisitions are the keys to happiness. The allure of novelty quickly dims, leaving behind a feeling of regret and shame from overspending.

    Humans are tribal by nature

We humans are tribal by nature. Positive interaction with our fellow human beings where we feel seen, supported, and heard is key to perceiving a sense of safety and well-being.

A supportive community has for eons been part
of the survival mechanism of the human species.

    Highlights of this episode:

    Keys to longevity and happiness
    The nurturing power of community
    Essentials of a healthy community
