Living with Mon Monika O'Hanlon

Late last year I released a podcast called Dying with Mon. I spoke with people from different movements and religions about what they believe happens when we die. Look, It’s not the most upbeat subject, so I was thinking (mainly for myself) - let’s lighten the mood and turn this thing on it’s head.
My name’s Monika O’Hanlon, and in this series I’m going to explore how a bunch people from Australia and across the globe – do life. It’s called Living with Mon and we’re going to tap in to some of the most interesting lifestyles out there.
My favourite thing about this project was getting the opportunity to take some time and just have a chat with all these extraordinary people – some who had completely different views than my own, live polar opposite lifestyles – and I had the best time, and I feel like I really learnt a lot.
So if you’re keen to open your mind, step out of your shoes and take a stroll in someone else’s – click subscribe wherever you get your podcasts. Episode 1 of Living with Mon will be dropping very shortly.
I cannot wait to start this journey with you.

North East Arnhem Land with Mon - Siena Stubbs
Hello! Happy Thursday (AKA Little Friday)!
Today I thought we would look back at an episode from my very first podcast, North East Arnhem Land with Mon.
This is a conversation I had with the wonderful Siena Stubbs. At the time we recorded she was only 17 years old and wise beyond her years.
Growing up in Yirrkala, an indigenous community about 18 kilometres from Nhulunbuy in remote Arnhem Land – Siena says she feels lucky to have been brought up with her Yolngu culture. She’s a published author and photographer and already has a number of prestigious awards under her belt.
Siena is a truly inspiring human and it was an honour to have her on the pod. Enjoy!

Dying with Mon - Raëlism - Peter Heaven
I thought since we've been talking a lot about living, why not switch things up this week 🙃
Today we are taking a look at an episode I did for my Dying with Mon series, which explores what people from different religions and movements believe happens when we die. I promise you - it's not as grim as it sounds.
This is a conversation with Peter Heaven, a Level 4 guide within the Raëlian movement. If you've never heard of this community, you are certainly in for a treat.
The Raëlian Church was founded in the 1970s by French race-car journalist, Maitreya Rael after an extraordinary encounter with a human being from another planet.
I thoroughly enjoyed this chat with Peter, and I really hope you do to.

Polyamory - Oberon Zell
I’m not really sure how to introduce today’s guest, because he wears many, many hats. His name is Oberon Zell and he’s an artist, author and teacher. He’s also a wizard, and in fact the headmaster of a school of wizardry. On top of all this he’s the founder and Primate of the oldest incorporated pagan church, the Church of All Worlds. Now I was lucky enough to speak with Oberon for another series of mine – Dying with Mon. We spoke all about the Church of All Worlds and his views on death and what happens next.
If you’re curious I cannot recommend that episode highly enough – check it out HERE. It’s an absolutely incredible conversation, but one thing we didn’t delve too far into last time was his relationships. Oberon is polyamorous. He’s been in a number of group marriages, and has an absolutely beautiful outlook on the topic. I am so excited to share this one with you. I hope you enjoy it!

Antarctic Tour Guide - Graceie
For Many of us – especially here in Australia, the possibility of travelling the world seems impossible. Things are going to open up of course, but for now perhaps we can all live vicariously through the stories from my guest this week.
Her name is Graceie, and she’s an Antarctic tour guide . I wish we could’ve chatted for hours because, as you’ll soon find out - we could’ve made an entire series devoted just to her. Unfortunately because we had to do this interview very early in the morning (Graceie is currently based in the US) we ran out of time and I had to go to work. But it was an incredible conversation and honestly, it was almost as good as a holiday – ALMOST. Enjoy!

Scaly - Rune
We are in for an absolute treat today – and a bit of spicy one at that. The last episode was about the Furry fandom – my guest Haru gave us a bit of an overview of the subculture. Today we are delving in a little deeper.. I’m speaking to the lovely Rune who is a scaly. They’re also part of the furry fandom – you’ll hear exactly what being a scaly is in just a moment. We’re going to be talking about the more mature side of the scene. Rune was so generous and open, it really was an absolute pleasure sitting down with him. I hope you enjoy it!
*** Throughout this conversation we use the word "character". I understand being a furry and someone's fursona is an extension of one's self. However both Rune and I used the word to simplify things.
