”There were a golf course with 18 holes, between Talpiot, a jewish settlement and the Arab College, where I was staying. We always crossed that golf course to catch the bus from Jerusalem to Bethlehem. We saw girls and boys, women and men, in the forest at Talpiot. They were an army doing their drills. It was forboding what was going to happen. It was in the air. The animosity was already there. This is in 1941”, says Munther Al-Fahoum, born 1927 in Irbid, Jordan.

    - When the army broke into the village I was making bread, spreading it all over the house. The soldiers told us:
”It’s either you get out of your houses or we kill you where you are.”
    - We left the bread and got out of the house, running barefoot, says Nabeha Abou Jamous, born 1942, in Akka, in Palestine.
    - Here in the Shatila camp I wake up broken. I get tired even after sleeping. Back in Palestine everything felt holy, even the sand. If you touch the ground you are comforted. The smell of the cucumber in my home village used to break my heart. Palestine is my lover.

Hans familj lever än idag i Tarshiha, säger Mohamad Abo Hashem. Född cirka 1941, i byn Tarshiha, nära Akka i Palestina.

    - I had a tortured childhood. In the first attack the jews shot four men in our village, two of them were my uncles. I saw their bodies afterwards. My mother and me cried. She continued to cry until the day she died. The zionists are my enemies, not the jews, says Ismael Yacob Al-Saifi. He was born 1941 in Deir Al-Dubban, Palestine. Recorded 2019 in Amman, Jordan. The Israelis started shooting at us. We heard a lot of shooting för several days, especially at night. One day people told us that the Israeli army was approaching from Beit Safafa. The shooting got louder and I was afraid. My mum and dad told us to get up and start preparing ourselves. My father carried his mother over his back. She was in her 80´s and panicked. She was afraid and weak. He also carried a small bag of flour. My oldest brother, Mustafa, carried some olive oil. My mother carried my little brother, 10 months old. And I grabbed my fathers hand.
