When Jesus was asked, “What is the greatest commandment?” He didn’t hesitate to say that our number one priority as people of faith is to love God with all of our heart, mind, soul, and strength. In other words, it’s to passionately pursue God with everything we’ve got. And yet, if we’re honest, we have to admit that sometimes we fall well short of that command. It’s not that we leave the faith entirely or stop believing in God. Instead, we find ourselves somewhere in the middle. The Bible has a word for this. It’s called being lukewarm. So how do we avoid falling into the trap of spiritual complacency? Join us starting June 6, as we begin our new 4-week series, “Overcoming Lukewarm,” as we explore some of the most common spiritual pitfalls and how to get our faith back on track.

Running on Empty
Before the invention of the printing press, access to a Bible was reserved only for the religious elite or the very wealthy. Most people had never touched a Bible never mind owned one. But today, not only are Bibles readily available in over 700 languages, but anyone with an internet connection has access to every translation ever recorded. And yet, in spite of it’s accessibility, many Christians admit that the area of faith that needs the most improvement is reading and studying Scripture. This Sunday, we’ll look at the importance of God’s word and it’s transformative power for our lives.

Breaking Bad
For some Christians, the cause of a lukewarm faith isn’t just because their passion for God has waned, but it’s also because they’ve allowed some destructive habits get in the way. So, how do we deal with the very real temptation of sin in our lives that prevents us from pursuing God? This Sunday, we’ll look at some timely advice from the Letter to the Hebrews that can break our bad habits and experience a breakthrough in our faith.

Interestingly, in the book of Revelation, God says that’s how He prefers our faith too. In fact, the worst kind of faith is someone who’s not hot or cold but somewhere in the middle. It’s called being lukewarm. This Sunday, we’ll look at a group of Christians that fell into this category in the 1st Century and why it’s still something we struggle with 2,000 years later.
