    French Exit (2020)

    French Exit (2020)

This Pfriday brings the startling realization that our plan was to die before the movies ran out, but here we are to discuss La Pfeiffer's most recent release, FRENCH EXIT, pfeaturing Michelle's transcendent performance as Frances Price. This tragic pfarce gives us everything: MIchelle doing something entirely new in a lead role worthy of her talents, possessed cats, 2020's uber-twink Lucas Hedges, frozen dildos, and Valerie Mahaffey giving a zanily wonderful supporting actress turn. We also talk about the movie's release dates, from festival to theatrical, and the stacked leading actress races on the 2020 awards circuit.

    The Wizard of Lies (2017)

    The Wizard of Lies (2017)

This Pfriday, we're clicking our heels three times and saying there's no place like Montauk as we discuss THE WIZARD OF LIES, Michelle's return to television movies after over 30 years. Playing Ruth Madoff, and reteaming with Robert De Niro as the infamous Bernie, La Pfeiffer gives a strong performance as a wife in freefall. In a crowded awards race for stellar female performances, Michelle earned her first Emmy nomination and returned to the Golden Globes for her seventh career nom (and first for a television performance). Other topics for discussion are additional acting MVP Alessandro Nivola as one of Madoff's sons, and the real-life scandal to dramatized adaptation pipeline.

    The Children Nobody Wanted (1981)

    The Children Nobody Wanted (1981)

This Pfriday, we take a brief detour from La Pfeiffer's pfeature pfilms to delve into her work on television, where her acting career began. The first entry in this two-episode miniseries is THE CHILDREN NOBODY WANTED, Michelle's final TV movie before her breakout role in Grease 2. Based on the true story of The Butterfield Ranch, Michelle is given what is considered her first leading role, but is once again playing the supportive girlfriend. We're also talking about how the medium of television films have changed since the 80s, the perils of typecasting, plus the natural talent Michelle continued to show in these early roles.

    Frankie and Johnny (1991)

    Frankie and Johnny (1991)

It's Pfriday and the special of the day is FRANKIE AND JOHNNY, a delicious slice of 90s romance pfeaturing the Scarface reunion of Michelle Pfeiffer and Al Pacino. Joining us at our diner booth today is the pfabulous Francesca Brown, who's here to chat with us about our many takeaways from this pfilm: love at first sight and workplace romances, seeing ourselves in certain characters, loneliness, the fun of teaching Kate Nelligan palindromes ("Puppy!"), and the beautiful marriage between Michelle's layered performance and Terrence McNally's dialogue. Order up!

    Dark Shadows (2012)

    Dark Shadows (2012)

This Pfriday, a vampire, a witch, and two Oscar-nominated actresses walk into a dilapidated manor. Cue the werewolf! Welcome to Collinwood as we rise from our coffins to tackle DARK SHADOWS, the Michelle Pfeiffer/Tim Burton reunion that failed to reach the critical, commercial or cultural highs of their previous collaboration. We discuss Michelle's heightened performance and hilarious facial expressions (and revisit the age-old adage: do not underuse La Pfeiffer), the trajectories of Burton and Depp post-Sweeney Todd, the pitfalls of reboots, and the gothic perfection of Eva Green.
