Starbucks Gave Her A Pat On The Back | Sarah Kaye | Episode 1023

Starbucks Gave Her A Pat On The Back | Sarah Kaye | Episode 1023

    htt
Sarah Kaye has always been drawn to the tactile world of 3D creation. Fond memories of her mum's homemade play-dough and her insistence on clay projects in art class foreshadowed her future path. Sarah studied Product Design at Parsons School of Design and dug deeply into her minor in Ceramic for Industrial Production under the guidance of  Marek Cecula. However, recognizing the practicalities of life after graduation, Sarah ventured into advertising as a Strategic Planner, where she discovered unexpected parallels of the design process and understanding consumer behavior - thinking about product use and the consumer's experince of them. In Seattle, Sarah was accepted to the two year Pottery Northwest residency program, the last group of residents to be guided by the delight that is Wally Bivens. Starbucks recruited Sarah for a project while still in the program there, as did a local espresso machine manufacturer. Twelves years later, SKaye Ceramics is based in Seattle's Georgetown and Sarah has close ties to the coffee community who have been the patron saints of her small business.

A podcast that is getter better and better!

I have listened to The Potters Cast for a long time. It has been a way for me to hear about potters life in The United States and sometimes other countrys. The podcast is getting better and better. Paul is a very friendly and enthusiastic interviewer and are having good talks about the entrepreneurship part of being a potter as well. I had a very nice time being a part of an interview myself, episode 414. Thank you very much, Paul!

Global creative inspiration!

This show is well worth your time. Interviews with ceramic artists from all over the world. The host, Paul Blaise, has a generous loving approach to the peope, clay and the world. The people that he interviews shares their experience of working with clay, communities, schools, they come on as full fledged artists or hobby potters - all inspiring in some way.
One unique aspect of the show is that they often touch on the business aspect of being an artist/maker. A conversation that is hard to find with other creatives - we are usually not so good at that. Super helpful!
Listening to the show during my studio time I've learned a lot and I feel thrilled and greatful to be part of a global clay community with so many warm and truly creative human beeings! Love to you all!
