Build Up Your Talent, Your Team, & Your Company

How to Build an Analytics Team

How to Build an Analytics Team

In my previous videos, I've talked about how to make sure that you're measuring what is meaningful for your company, and that you always need to tie HR results to business results. Another piece of the puzzle is to have the right team and leader in charge of your talent analytics group. In the age of big data, business leaders and HR professionals are still learning to combine good old-fashioned intuition or gut feelings with analytics when it comes to making workforce decisions. In fact, Josh Bersin, (the founder of the research firm Bersin by Deloitte) mentioned in a recent interview that only 4% of the market currently has a sophisticated analytics strategy, while about 50-60% of companies are still trying to make sense of the data that they have.
So where should organizations look to implement a talent analytics program begin? I say start by hiring the right people.

How to Use A Checklist to Get Things Done Right

How to Use A Checklist to Get Things Done Right

Today I'm going to show you how to use checklists to get things done right, every time. When it comes to ensuring things get done, right, every time, I found nothing is better than using checklists, I think it was Henry Ford, who said: “The biggest goal can be accomplished if you break it down into enough small steps”. If you take those steps and put them into a checklist, you'll have a much higher percentage of consistent error-free execution checklists or a list of items or functions that need to be inspected, set, or performed in a particular order so that nothing is left out.
Now, I've always been a big fan of lists. I think a lot of people believe that checklists are merely about ticking the boxes and even mindlessly following protocol. Well, in reality, checklists are much more about facilitating a culture of teamwork, and discipline, which are crucial for a wide range of contexts, such as complex problems that involve either expert skills or knowledge.

How to Improve Team Dynamics and Performance

How to Improve Team Dynamics and Performance

As a leader, I'm sure you've noticed how much emphasis is being placed on Team Development these days in all forms. General consensus says that today's leaders must be able to create team involvement. Today I’m going to share a leadership exercise that I started using with my teams, after reading a famous quote by Zig Ziglar: “We all need a daily checkup from the neck up to avoid stinkin' thinkin' which ultimately leads to hardening of the attitudes.” It really is true. If you want a different result, you have to try a different approach. And I find it's a common trap that individuals and teams fall into. Why? Because we're human, and humans are creatures of routine.

The Best Questions I Learned to Ask

The Best Questions I Learned to Ask

One of the best questions I ever learned to ask, I learned from my dad. From the age of six, he would ask me it every single day. As an adult, I can now fully appreciate our daily discussions and reflections and still use the lessons he taught me. In this video, I’m going to share with you my dad’s growth philosophy and how I still use it today.

How to Be Promoted to the Next Level

How to Be Promoted to the Next Level

A common challenge that my coaching clients express to me when we first meet is frustration. It can be for a lot of different reasons, but one is usually around being unclear about what it will take for them to be promoted to the next level in their job and then how to prepare for it. This can be especially difficult if it’s located in another department or area of responsibility since their manager may have limited information about it.
So today I thought I would share the advice that I give them with you in the hopes that it might help you in your journey. This talent tip is a four-part process that you can use to get your developmental ball rolling.

The Most Important Thing You Can Do to Be Successful

The Most Important Thing You Can Do to Be Successful

In my many years of being a practitioner and consultant, I have found self-discipline to be one of the key traits of all successful leaders.
In fact, many years ago I went to a success seminar by Brian Tracy, you probably know him from one of his hundreds of seminars, books, and articles. He was one of the founding fathers of the success psychology movement. At that seminar, I was fortunate to be one of five people selected in a random drawing to actually meet with him.
In today’s talent tip I am going to share with you the advice he gave me, how I have used it to shape my success, and how you can too.
