Sr. Damien Marie Savino, Ph.D., a Franciscan Sister of the Eucharist and expert on the subject of ecology, discusses some elements of Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato Si’. She also explores components of the climate change crisis in order to help us find more effective solutions.

Father Michael Rosinski, SJ, a canon lawyer and professor of canon law at Regis College Toronto, talks with Francky about the 1983 Code of Canon Law and how it relates to the teachings which came out of the Second Vatican Council. Father Rosinski discusses the place of canon law in the lives of the faithful and of the Church and addresses crucial topics relating to canon law, such as the rights of the faithful and the crisis of sexual abuse of minors in the Church.

His Eminence, Thomas Collins, Cardinal Archbishop of Toronto, unpacks for us the Second Vatican Council’s Decree on the Pastoral Office of Bishops, Christus Dominus. He addresses the question of the ecclesial structure and governance of the Catholic Church and also provides us with some key insights to better understand the relationships between clergy and laity, encouraging both to be witnesses of the Gospel message by responding with authenticity to their different vocations of service in the Church and in the world.

Dr. Josephine Lombardi addresses the ecclesiology of Vatican II and discusses various elements, such as the different models of the Church and the call to holiness of all Christians, members of the Mystical Body of Christ. She also enables us to consider how the Church can better respond to today’s challenges and demonstrates the relationship between the ecclesiology of the Second Vatican Council and the recent papal encyclical, Fratelli Tutti.

The theme of ecumenism has always been of interest to Dr. Susan Wood, a Sister of Charity of Leavenworth, who has invested a significant number of years in the ecumenical dialogue, both through her participation in various commissions which promote it and through her numerous writings. In this episode, she explains the meaning of ecumenism in accordance with the Second Ecumenical Council of the Vatican and invites us to a kind of “practice of ecumenism” while being aware of the complexities of the process.

As he embarks on a new series of conversations about Vatican II, Deacon Jean Francky Guerrier, SJ, talks with Dr. Margaret Lavin, Professor Emerita at Regis College, Toronto, and author of the book, Vatican II: Fifty Years of Evolution and Revolution in the Catholic Church. Dr. Lavin provides us with an introduction to the main elements of this important council, highlighting the theological and historical contexts and underlining the consequences of its reception.
