It's a question we ask (and get asked) all the time: “How are you?” And normally we just respond with “Fine!” even if we’re totally dying inside, so everyone can go about their day.
But it’s not always all that fine, is it?
“Terrible, Thanks For Asking” is a show by author Nora McInerny that lets real people get real honest about how they’re really doing. It’s sometimes sad, sometimes funny, and almost always both. A production of Feelings & Co.

BONUS EPISODE: The Smartphone Addiction We All Share

BONUS EPISODE: The Smartphone Addiction We All Share

How many hours a day do you spend on your smartphone? If you're like many of us, it's an embarrassingly high number. Our phones are an endless source of distraction, and the dopamine we get from using them is changing our brains.

In today's bonus episode hear from some of you about how this addiction is impacting your mental health and day to day life. We also talk to Anna Lembke, a psychiatrist and author of Dopamine Nation, about how the smartphone addiction looks in our brain and how we treat it.

Thanks for being a TTFA Premium subscriber! We couldn't make these episodes without you :)

Bonus Episode: Your Not So Average Family

Bonus Episode: Your Not So Average Family

"First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes baby in a baby carriage."

We all grew up with our own version of this old nursery rhyme. Maybe we told ourselves we'd meet a partner by a certain age, have a specific amount of kids, or had plans of raising our kids alongside siblings and parents.

But the universe doesn't care about our timelines. Sometimes you end up with the opposite of what you expected! People die, kids come into your life, infertility happens, and falling in love happens when it happens and not a moment before!

Back in April, we launched our sister show, Refamulating, which explores different ways to make a family. The show celebrates whatever version of family you've created, and encourages all of us to let go of our expectations around what family should look like. On this episode of TTFA Premium Nora and Claire go through some of the submissions about your not average families.

BONUS EPISODE: Welcome To The Broken Hearts Club

BONUS EPISODE: Welcome To The Broken Hearts Club

It's a shitty club, yet it's one that most of us have been a part of at some point. Heartbreak can look like many things: getting dumped, grief over losing someone, or maybe a friend break up. When you're in it, it feels like the loneliest place in the world.

That's why we wanted to make a bonus episode about heartbreak, to remind ourselves that when your heart is broken, you are not the only one.

(Yes, we did coordinate this episode with Taylor Swift so she could release The Tortured Poet's Department the same month as our heartbreak episode).

On this episode, Nora listens to voicemails and reads emails from you all about romantic and platonic heartbreaks, and offers a little advice as well.

Thank you so much for supporting our show.

BONUS EPISODE: An update with Jayson Greene

BONUS EPISODE: An update with Jayson Greene

In 2019 we aired an episode called 'It Just Happens', where Jayson Greene shared about losing his two-year-old daughter in an unexpected accident. In today's bonus episode Nora checks in with Jayson a few years later to see how his grief has evolved as time moved on.

Check out Jayson's memoir about this experience called Once More We Saw Stars.

Becoming Fairy Godmother: Egg Donation and Creating A New Kind of Family

Becoming Fairy Godmother: Egg Donation and Creating A New Kind of Family

Two years ago Julia Winston was asked to help a gay couple start a family by donating her eggs. At the time, she was 38, single, and had no idea if she’d start her own family. Sometimes that made her feel insecure, so the opportunity to donate her eggs allowed her to help create a family, just not the one she imagined in her head. Since the donation, she’s gone through an emotional transformation that opened her eyes to all the different ways a family can look.

Julia is the host of Refamulating, the newest podcast from the Feelings and Co universe. Listen to Refamulating now, wherever you get your podcasts. Follow the show on Instagram.

Well-bred badass ,

This podcast really matters

Nora is a connector. She makes us feel less alone in our various forms of misery, by telling our stories with insight and compassion. Despite the often heart-breaking content, she’s also very funny and has a unique voice and delivery. The podcast is beautifully produced and every thought-provoking episode brings greater understanding of what it means to be human.

Cry-laughing

This podcast almost every episode make me both cry and laugh, often at the same time. I love it and a lot of the episodes stick with you for quite a while, the raw and real emotions that both the host and those who are interviewed has makes you feel part of the conversation. I recommend it to everyone <3
