E101: Brett Solo Episode: The Mindset & Questions That Will Stall Your Professional Progress
If you own a restaurant, is it enough to make the best pizza in town? If you are a coach, is it enough to write the perfect program? If you are an entrepreneur, is it enough to make a flawless product?
No. Just doing good work is not enough. As social beings in a social world, we must combine knowledge of our field with that of communication, behavior and business.
If that's the case, what’s the minimum amount of knowledge I need in my field before I start learning about these other topics?
In today’s quick hitter, I tackle this question and ones like it that limit our growth and prevent us from being truly effective with our respective populations.
As with most of our solo episodes, there is a lot to digest here. For help applying the concepts heard today and a list of the questions mentioned, be sure to download our free podcast reflections.
Still not sure where to start? Check out our online courses Bought In and Valued. Bought In will help you refine your intrapersonal communication skills while Valued will aid you in creating viability in both your career and personal life. Remember, the offer code “century20” will get you 20% off anything from artofcoaching.com/courses now through July 15th.

E99 | Steven Moser: Getting the Job and Nailing Your Interview

E99 | Steven Moser: Getting the Job and Nailing Your Interview

    Are you someone who…

Will enter the job market at any point in the future?

Is in a leadership position and looking to hire?

Can’t seem to break through and get the job you want?

If you answered yes to any of these, this one's for you.
Today I am joined by someone who will help us understand exactly what we need to do to get the job or find the best person for the job. I urge you to download the free podcast reflection and follow along as we discover that a good resume, cover letter and network are no longer enough…
After starting his career in the Buffalo Sabres scouting department, Steve Moser found himself somewhere he always wanted to avoid - Corporate America. Wanting to use his experience in the business world to get back to something he really loved, Steve joined Athletes' Performance/EXOS to lead recruiting. Having placed hundreds of performance professionals, he then started a consulting business where he worked with organizations including teams across the NBA, MLB, MLS, NCAA, UFC, and multiple Olympic teams. Steve is currently working full-time with Tonal, a connected fitness technology company in San Francisco where he is the Manager of Recruiting.
    In today’s episode we cover:

What recruiters are REALLY looking for on a resume

Does social media help or hurt you in a job search?

The most important word in hiring

    Practicing for a phone/in-person interview

    When you shouldn’t network

For more help getting the job you want, check out our online course, Valued. This resource will not only help you negotiate and market yourself, it will help you cultivate a personal brand that companies will want to hire.

Just a quick reminder that we are hosting our first AOC Apprenticeship™ of the summer - July 25-26th in Charleston, SC! Like Steve mentioned, the best way to prepare for an interview is to have different conversations with different people. This workshop is just the place to do that. E97 | Heidi Morrison: Reaching Teens and Resolving Conflict

E97 | Heidi Morrison: Reaching Teens and Resolving Conflict

Nowadays, it’s not uncommon for coaches to refer to themselves as teachers. When it comes to relating to people, fostering a learning environment, creating buy-in and adapting to change, this comparison isn’t far from the truth. And yet, there is still so much we can learn from the teaching profession. All of this to say, I am so glad to have my good friend Heidi Morrison on the show today…
As an Assistant Principal at Centennial High School (Fulton County, GA), Heidi has worked with more than 10,000 adults over her 23-year career. With a background in special education, leadership and career advising, Heidi gives us unique insight into the ever-changing role of teachers and administrators.
    Join us as we discuss:

Designing buildings and spaces to create comfort and buy-in

Proxemics and using your “dark side”

Should we try to “catch-up” up post-COVID-19?

Managing change within a 90,000 student school district

Guided discovery and the flipped classroom

Heidi is the perfect example of how communication and people skills can benefit people in every profession. Regardless of your role, be sure to check out our online courses for more... For example, Bought In (our flagship course), helps you develop an action plan to start creating greater buy-in while understanding the psychological principles that underpin human behavior. And Valued provides individuals the ability to land the job they’ve always wanted, make more money, create stability and stand out within their organization.
