From Floppy Disks to Emoji Spells: The Evolution of Techno Witchcraft

From Floppy Disks to Emoji Spells: The Evolution of Techno Witchcraft

    Episode 33

    Witching in the 21st Century.

Welcome to another enchanting  Solitary Witch episode of "The Bell Witch Podcast" with Swailes the Friendly Green witch🌿✨

Today, we're diving broomstick-first into the spellbinding world of techno paganism and digital witchcraft. But before we get our cauldrons bubbling, I have a tiny favour to ask. If you love what we do here, please consider showing your support by voting for us in the British Podcast Awards. Your votes are like magical pixie dust that keeps this podcast flying high! Here is the link- Voting - British Podcast Awards [https://www.britishpodcastawards.com/voting]

Alright, let's get into the good stuff! Have you ever wondered how technology has become a part of modern witchcraft? Well, grab your wands and smartphones because we're about to explore this fascinating blend of the mystical and the digital.

First, let's take a trip back to the 90s. Remember Buffy the Vampire Slayer? Ah, the good old days when Willow Rosenberg introduced us to the concept of techno paganism. She was the ultimate witchy hacker, blending spells with coding. Fast forward to today, and you'll see that the world of witchcraft has evolved even more, thanks to social media, apps, and online communities.

From casting spells via Zoom to using apps for moon phase tracking, technology has truly woven itself into the fabric of neo-paganism. It's like having a magical toolkit right in your pocket! But with great power comes great responsibility, right? So, let's chat about the cultural impact and potential risks of casting spells in the digital age.

One thing to keep in mind is the importance of intention and authenticity. Just because you can cast a spell with a few taps on your phone doesn't mean you should skip the traditional practices that ground us. And let's not forget about privacy and consent—two crucial elements in both the digital and magical realms.

So, what do you think about this techno-magical fusion? Are you a fan of digital witchcraft, or do you prefer the old-school ways? I'd love to hear your thoughts! Drop me a message or join our online coven to keep the conversation going.

Until next time, keep your crystals charged and your Wi-Fi strong! Blessed be! 🌙🔮

The Market Place saved my life

The Market Place saved my life

A spontaneous episode from me on something very close to my witchy heart. Please know I do get a bit emotional in this little episode.

Open letter to the people of Leeds (and beyond),

For the past 35 years, the team here at The Market Place charity has been offering free, personal mental health support to the young people of this great city. We have had hundreds of thousands of visits from tens of thousands of young people and from the feedback we have received over the years, we know we have made a huge difference.

We would like to thank all of the schools, GPs, universities, family, friends, and most importantly, the young people themselves that have trusted us to provide non-judgemental, young person centred, confidential support throughout this time. We are immensely proud of the reputation we have built across Leeds and this, alongside the quality of support we give, remains our strongest selling point.

Our way of working has enabled young people to feel confident exploring issues and concerns they have, develop ways of coping, forge their own paths to feeling happier, overcome barriers, build resilience, and not just survive, but thrive.

We are a dedicated, committed, and skilled team who all share a passion for working with young people and who take immense pride in the work we do and being "allowed in" to the lives of young people, often at a time when they are struggling the most. We treat this as a privilege and as such, we strive to ensure all young people we see aren't simply listened to, but heard and valued.

All that said, we write to you at a time of great sadness and urgent need. The Market Place's current main source of income ends on 30th June 2024. This massive loss of income for The Market Place means we will have to drastically reduce our offer and we will not have the capacity to support as many young people as we have until now.

This is where we need you. The Market Place needs your support like never before so that we can keep supporting the amazing young people of Leeds. We have a plan to keep the charity going on a smaller scale to enable us to relaunch early in the Autumn. Our offer will continue to provide counselling and long-term support– which we know young people who use our services really value and need.

It doesn't feel right that we are the ones asking for support but this is the unfortunate position we are in.

We urge you to spread the word to everyone you know and point them in the direction of our fundraising effort on JustGiving  [https://www.justgiving.com/themarketplaceleeds]

Please share this news as widely as possible and donate or consider raising vital funds for us. We would hugely appreciate any and all the help you are able to give in this difficult time.

    Thank you,

From the staff, volunteers and trustees at The Market Place Leeds.

    The Heathen & His Mead

    The Heathen & His Mead

    Episode 31

Welcome to The Bell Witch Podcast- 'Witching in the 21st Century'

In this Moot Loot episode we welcome my good friend Chew who is a Heathen. Chew tells us about finding his path, the importance of mead in his spirituality and a couple of medieval folklore stories of Gods like Thor who drank too much!

"Hi I'm Richard Chew, 2nd generation Pagan. I follow the Germanic Heathen path honouring the old Northern Traditions. My faith is a combination of Norse/Scandinavian and Anglo-Saxon polytheism. I am currently a high council freeman of the Iron Raven Kindred based in Leeds where I am chiefly responsible in conducting all form of group ritual and ceremonial rites. Mead-making is a  personal passion of mine, it is an essential sacred offering to both my gods and my faith."

    Special thanks to...

    Chew for his wonderful insight
