Alonso commits to Aston Martin - but what can they achieve together?

Edd Straw is joined by Ben Anderson and special guest Lawrence Barretto, correspondent and presenter for F1.com and Channel 4 F1, to discuss the news that Fernando Alonso has re-committed his future to Aston Martin, with the Spaniard signing a multi-year deal. Our trio discuss why both parties were keen to take this step, ask what they can realistically achieve together, and address whether Alonso's age might impact their potential. After that, Edd, Ben and Lawrence take a look at how Alonso's signing affects the rest of the driver market for 2024, before turning their attention back to Aston Martin and assessing the team's long-term potential.

Why the Japanese GP will be a key barometer of team progress

Host Edd Straw is joined by Glenn Freeman and Josh Suttill to look ahead to this weekend's Japanese Grand Prix, and in particular why bringing the race forward on the calendar has made Suzuka an even better barometer of team progress and development direction. They also discuss the shock departure of David Sanchez from McLaren's technical team, catch up on the news that there's a deal in place for Formula 1 owner Liberty Media to buy MotoGP promoter Dorna, and chat about the progress made in 2024 by RB's Yuki Tsunoda, and whether Japan's sole F1 driver is doing enough to stay on the grid long-term.

Mercedes’ pursuit of Verstappen - genuine interest or mischief making?

Mercedes’ pursuit of Verstappen - genuine interest or mischief making?

Mercedes' courtship of Max Verstappen stepped up a notch recently, with Toto Wolff making more admiring comments about him, but could that move really be on for the future, or is the Silver Arrows chief just trying to stir the pot and inflict more uncertainty on an already fractious Red Bull squad? That's one of the topics debated by Edd Straw, Scott-Mitchell-Malm and Ben Anderson on this episode.
They also look in more depth at Mercedes troubled start to the season, after tech chief James Allison revealed a little more about their issues, before moving down the grid to talk about Haas, with Scott having recently caught up with the team's charismatic former boss Guenther Steiner.

The problem with toxic F1 media

…is illustrated clearly in this podcast where no drama is too petty to create a headline from, no wild speculation ever off the table and no irrelevant, highly subjective opinion ever withheld. Particularly that of Edd Straw who fashions himself quite the expert but to anyone with actual knowledge is just a sad provocateur bringing a fine sport to its basest page three level.
