    On today's podcast of the Sensory Corner, we'll be speaking to guest Occupational Therapist, Emily Deller ( @emilymarie_ot ), an Intervention Occupational Therapist will going into the topic of Mental Health. yes, you got it, anxiety, stress, the whole 9 yards and how it impacts Neurodiverse children!

    ⁠Look when it comes to Anxiety & Stress especially, in the community, I've realized we skirt around the conversation or briefly mention it. However, mental health is a such a universal topic and is something which will and does impact every single individual⁠. It can tasking, draining and exhausting. So imagine being a child of whom doesn't have the sensory processes in place to truly asses and experience the situation around them. And also the fact children lack the experience and executive functioning to truly cope and deal with mental health - it truly does shed light on the importance of this conversation!

    On today's podcast of the Sensory Corner, we'll be speaking to guest Occupational Therapist, Olivia Cheng, an Intervention Occupational Therapist will going into the topic of Sensory Processing Disorder. Okay we get it, it seems like this word is a huge buzzword and the subject matter of Sensory Processing Issues has been beaten to death.

    However in today's podcast, we won't go into the nitty gritty definitions of SPD and the Sensory Systems, but more so key Red Flags you parents can keep an eye out when recognizing Sensory Issues in your child. While we're not saying you yourself parents can make a sound diagnosis of your child, but the more aware you can be of certain signs can help you connect your child with a professional earlier on in their developement.

    This Podcast isn't a be all or end all of SPD knowledge, however it will provide you with a better understanding and a framework to better listen to your child in a different way. Sensory Needs are communicated differently - often times through behaviour. Understanding the benefits of addressing and tending to these behaviours and consequences of ignoring them will better guide you, Sensory Parents out there, in your journeys to raising your Sensory Child.!

    On today's episode of The Sensory Corner, we'll be speaking with Guest SLP, Shannon Briggs and talking about little quick tips you can integrate into your everyday communication with your child to help them develop their Speech & Language. We somewhat covered these topics in past episodes however, you guys asked for it and Shannon will be dishing out 10 robust Speech tips from the Hanen & Early Start Denver Model.

    These strategies are very subtle changes however will tackle common issues we see in Parent-child communication. Look we get it, you're not an SLP, and whenever you hear that you need help develop your child's speech at home outside of the clinic, that can seem daunting.  From ensuring that you are setting you child up for natural conversation, developing their awareness to social cues, and diversifying their sentence structure is a very tall feet. But after this podcast, hopefully you will gain a bit of a better understanding on how to talk to you child and help develop their speech and language in a reasonable and less overwhelming manner!

Especially nowadays with the quarantine, with children being cooped up, with increased screen time, physical activity  while of utmost importance. Yet getting that physical activity in an engaging way has proved several parents not only in our community but in general several problems and issues.

    We're not going to go into a talk about how your child needs physical activity and how it's healthy for them - I hope we all are on the same page on the fact physical activity is a non-negotiable for good health. But more so, Andrea will be talking about the benefits from a Child Development standpoint, how crucial certain types of Gross Motor Movement can have on a child's progress to hitting various developmental milestones. More so, because parents everywhere have been forced to be their own teachers and OT's in a sense, we'll be giving  easy tips on how to create your own obstacle course at home!
