This is the most overlooked anime of the season. Outstanding across the board. A stylised gift to the genre. A story that doesn't treat their audience like idiots by explaining everything to them, yet everything that does happen takes place for a reason.
 
Your hand will not be held as you introduced into this world. You must hit the ground running and figure it out for yourself. It's not difficult. You don't have to be particularly clever. The information is readily provided, but this show does not waste moments. Not on character growth nor plot development.
 
My only complaint is that the episodes end too quickly when I want to keep savouring them. You would do well to watch The Princess of Snow and Blood in entirety.

The anime has an overreliance on CGI, though it's fortunately passable, but loses some marks due to bad CG messing with immersion with sudden quality changes in how things are animated.
 
As far as the plot goes, it start out strong in the first two episodes, then drops off a cliff. Episode 6, for example, could be completely cut from the series without anyone except those who read the source material noticing.
 
The majority of the characters are garbage-tier, and the majority of the decent characters get killed off.
 
The writing of this series is garbage. The characters are almost all annoying or disinteresting, and the entire season feels like a filler season of an sub-par anime.
