    This week on Tri Talk SA we catch up with one of the most loyal servants of South African Triathlon.

    Following her second place finish at the Ironman 5150 African Championships in Ekurhuleni two weeks ago two time Olympian and Commonwealth Games silver medalist Kate Roberts announced that she was calling it a day on her professional career.

    We catch up with Kate Roberts this week to chat about her decision and what brought it on. We also chat about her triathlon career as well as life after triathlon.

    Brad quizzes Kate on what is next and whether or not she is going to be lost to the sport. Kate also shares with us some of her athletic goals on this week’s show which includes possibly running a Comrades Marathon and perhaps looking at the longer, endurance type triathlons.

    Matt Trautman wins Ironman Wales to claim his first pro title

    Ironman Wales is one of the toughest Ironman triathlons on the circuit. Despite the tough course the weather tends to not play along either. This past weekend was no different.The racing was intense, as it always is in an Ironman, but in the end it was another South African who picked up the win. He finished 30th overall and second in his age group at the Ironman World Championships in Kona in 2013 and has now picked up his maiden win on the pro circuit following a 5th place on his pro debut at Ironman South Africa in 2014.Matt Trautman joins us on this week’s Tri Talk SA to talk about the race and the win and also to share his inspiring journey into triathlon. Coming from a sailing background Matt made the switch to the sport not that long ago and has really found his calling.We chat about what this win means to him, what his long term goals are and Matt also shares his favourite workout in the pool, on the bike and on the track.

    There was an awesome announcement made last week particularly for triathletes that are based in Gauteng. Races are few and far between and decent venues for races are even scarcer.This week on Tri Talk SA we chat to Grant Kuneke from Tri Rock South Africa about the brand new race that they have added to the South African triathlon calendar, Tri Rock Cradle of Humankind.It is a half Ironman distance tri that will take place in the heart of the World Heritage Site that is the Cradle of Human Kind. Consisting of a 1.9km swim, 90km cycle and a 21.1km run the first Tri Rock Cradle of Humankind takes place on 15 February 2015.Listen to this week’s show to find out some of the challenged Grant has had to overcome to get the race on the calendar, including having to build a road as well as what you can expect if you race the event next year.We also spoke about the upcoming 2014 Tri Rock Durban.If you want to find out more or to enter the race you can visit their website here.
