Hola, welcome to a special episode of Yo, Teach! - Esperanza Podding. Today the students in Rm. 40 dusted off the studio to talk about our Novel Study, Esperanza Rising , by Pam Munoz Ryan. The students explore Mexican American history as it relates to our novel, specifically questions about Mexican Repatriation and how Mexican laborers were treated in the 1930s. Enjoy!
1. Use your own words to explain the Mexican Repatriation.
2. Why did the Mexican Repatriation occur?
3. What happened to the people who were sent to Mexico? How were they treated? Why were they treated this way?
4. Even though approximately 60% of the people who were sent to Mexico were U.S. citizens, they were not allowed back into the U.S. Why?
