50th Anniversary of YWAM Training
Late last year Youth With A Mission celebrated 50 Years of training in YWAM.
As Luzanne shared with us, you can watch all of the sessions from the time of celebration on the YWAM YouTube channel, youtube.com/user/ywam.
YWAM Mozambique Movement of God
When the first YWAM church planting team came to a Mozambique province in the mid-90s to reach the Yao people, they learned there were very few Yao churches or believers in that area. They were told the Yao people were the hardest and most difficult people group to reach.
Now “churches are popping up like popcorn,” says Paul (not his real name) a local church planter and disciple maker.
“This is a phrase that Paul likes to use a lot because he is overwhelmed with what God is doing,” says Shephen Mbewe, a former YWAM location leader in Mozambique.
The Yao people are a tribe found in northern Mozambique, Malawi and parts of Tanzania in Africa. They are mainly Muslim, but their Islamic faith is also blended with folk and animistic beliefs.
When the YWAM team first came to the area they began spending time praying for the Yao, developing friendships with them by playing sports—especially football—together, using mercy ministries such as caring for the sick and wounded as a way to enter communities and demonstrating the love of God to the Yao.
It wasn’t long before people became interested. They began reading the Bible and sharing the Gospel message with other Yaos. The Gospel has also spread to the Makua Meto and Chewa tribes through the Yaos.
“The people movement is growing with the awareness that others outside their own people group and tribe need to hear, too,” says Mbewe. “The Gospel is spreading like a wild bush fire, utterly unstoppable.”
But coming to Christ hasn’t come without a price for some of these new believers, said Mbewe, who spent time with Carlos (not his real name), a man who had been beaten up by a best friend after he became a Christian. The best friend had been hired by Carlos’ own uncle and intended to kill the new Christian.
However, instead of hating his former best friend for trying to kill him, Carlos forgave him and shared Christ’s love with him. The former best friend became a Christian and the two friends share Christ together.
As new believers risk their lives to share God’s love, God is working through them.
Recently there was a special Yao conference that brought in 750 people from the tribes of Yao, Makua Meto, Chewa, and Nyanja, during which 76 new believers were baptized.

Update from M/V Pacific Hope in the Bahamas
Last episode I shared with you the work that the M/V Pacific Hope is doing in the Bahamas in response to Hurricane Dorian. They are continuing their work in partnership with other organisations like the Rotary Club of Grand Bahama ...
The latest statement from the M/V Pacific Hope "red shirts" is ...
We are looking for construction and general volunteers to help us rebuild the beloved Bahamian islands, recently devastated by Hurricane Dorian. MV Pacific Hope is a 182ft vessel providing construction, medical, and education to places hit by natural disasters. Our first phase was medical, to make sure that the health on the islands are stable with no life-threatening injuries. Now we are in our second phase, rebuilding.
Pacific Hope is one of the first medical ships into the Bahamas after the devastating Hurricane Dorian hit in early September. We secured one of the first MOU agreements with the government, secured multiple warehouses and distribution sites with the amazing help of Rotary on Grand Bahama Island, and have been physically handing goods straight to people in need, driving to the places hit hardest with our ATVs, setting up medical stations and sending doctors out to Grand Cay to help with life-threatening situations, transporting water and supplies throughout the islands, repairing restaurants for people to eat warm meals again, and so much more. We do not leave shortly after, we stay to help rebuild, all to demonstrate the love of Christ. We need your help!
Your help and volunteer efforts with allow us all to work together to help rebuild these islands that were so damaged and destroyed and help these families and communities to get back to a normal life. They need safe and secure structures, hot food, water and medical centers, schools and supplies.
We are looking for general volunteers, volunteers with any construction background or experience, dock repair and builders, captains and crew who can drive center consoles and help deliver supplies, debris removal – these areas have so much to repair and rebuild – any and all aide is needed and appreciated!
We need volunteers starting end of this week - you can come from 1 to multiple weeks depending on your availability. All lodging, meals and water are provided, just need to have a valid passport.
For more information you can email them at email@example.com or visit their webpage at www.mvpacifichope.org.
If you can’t volunteer at this time, you can also help by donating at their GoFundMe page.

YWAM Bahamas Hurricane Response
On September 1 Hurricane Dorian made landfall in the Bahamas causing wide spread destruction and death.
The YWAM Ship MV Pacific Hope arrived in the Northern Bahamas on September 8 and was the first Hospital ship to arrive after the hurricane. They have doctors specifically trained in disaster relief, EMTs, and nurses. They have been busy with dispersing Medical teams, organising distribution of supplies around the island, and distributing fresh water to those hit the hardest.
The more than 40 volunteers and crew began to cook and distribute hot food, water, and supplies to hundreds of people throughout the island with four wheel drive vehicles. On Grand Bahama, they have set up a warehouse and distribution center in High Rock which is unable to be accessed without a 4-wheeled vehicle.
Right before the storm hit all the medical staff evacuated off the island. The M/V Pacific Hope's crew repaired a house to use as a make shift medical clinic and has provided a medical team to provide medical care for the island.
Transport to the Bahamas right now is extremely limited so the best way that you could currently help is by donating through the M/V Pacific Hope Dorian Relief GoFundMe Page.
The most up to date information for YWAM's work in the Bahamas can be found on their Facebook page.

Nehemiah House - YWAM Phillipines
YWAM Nehemiah House
In 1996 YWAM in the Philippines started the first Nehemiah House to provide a Christ centred treatment program for female victims of physical or sexual abuse between the ages 7-18. Currently they operate two homes, one in Cagayan de Oro City and in Malaybalay City, both of which are located on the island of Mindanao.
When the girls get rescued out of their situation they are often very hurt, confused, often sick, and have very little in the way of belongings. The program at YWAM Nehemiah House helps to bring healing and love to the girls. The centre can help as many as 50 girls at a time at their two homes.
There is plenty of opportunity for you to go and help with the Nehemiah House in the Phillipines. There are chances to work with the girls and also around the property. At one of the homes there is a farm that is planted with palm and fruit trees, this year a team from Germany volunteered and taught the girls self defence, and there are many other opportunities if you want get involved.
You can check out their web-site at ywamnhi.org to find out more, including how you can volunteer or support their ministry.

Rice Shortage in Mae La Camp, Thailand
Since 2014 Australian Mercy, a part of Youth With A Mission, has been committed to assisting with the Mae La refugee camp on the Thailand/Burma border. The refugee camp currently houses about 50,000 Burmese refugees and is the largest refugee camp for the Burmese refugees in Thailand and is the home to a very large Karen population.
Recently is was reported that the situation with rice in Mae-la is getting worse. They urgently need to raise funds for their nutritional supplements program in Mae-la camp. The refugees in Thailand do not feel safe to return to Burma, and for good reason. There is not a day where we do not hear about dangers from the Burmese military, land confiscations or landmines. As time progresses, food distributions in the camps continue to be reduced.
To provide rice and tinned fish supplements for the rest of the year Australian Mercy needs to raise another $15,000, and if they want to extend the program to others, they need to raise much more.
Find out how you can help to provide nutrition to the Mae La Refugee camp with Australian Mercy at australianmercy.org.
