We conclude this lesson by examining closely what Jesus said about the interim period, this era of time where He delays the return of the Kingdom of God due to Israel’s rejection of Him. Jesus describes what to expect and He introduces something unexpected: the church age. We will see briefly how the church age begins, how it ends and how the interim period closes with the Tribulation of Israel and second coming of Christ. We’ve studied the birth, life, death and resurrection of Christ. We learnt why it was necessary for Jesus to be born as a man, live a perfectly sinless life, die as the perfect substitute for mankind’s sin and then be raised to life with a resurrection body. Jesus accomplished most of what He came to do. However, there was one task that He didn’t complete at His first coming: He didn’t restart the non-functioning Kingdom of God. In fact, as we will learn, He delayed it because the majority of the Jewish people and their leaders rejected Him as Messiah. So Jesus began to describe how He would delay the return of the Kingdom and start an interim period instead. What will this interim period be like? We conclude our exploration of the word “saved” and “salvation” by examining the role that “work” has in the believer’s life. If God justifies us once for all time, what is the purpose of works? Scripture describes how God had planned for the body of Christ to work as part of our sanctification journey and to forward the work of building and strengthening the body of Christ as well as making new disciples. Christ looks forward to rewarding us for our labour for Him. He will review our efforts at an event known as the Judgment Seat of Christ. So what is the criteria for good work versus useless work? We complete Lesson 37: The First Resurrection. We discuss what happened after Jesus’ resurrection, the implications on the world and what it means for believers. We also examine what Jesus accomplished with His resurrection, how His resurrection body proved that God’s promised Eternal State is real, and how with His resurrection body, Jesus will fulfil mankind’s job of responsible dominion. We also look at how Jesus will use the resurrection as a tool for final judgment. Then we conclude by looking at common objections to the resurrection and how we can respond to them. We finish Lesson 36 (at 55:00) with the discussion on how Jesus calls to all people. We also examine the feasts that God put into Israel’s calendar and how they are prophetic signs of the Messiah’s work for Israel. Then we continue with Lesson 37: The First Resurrection. We first examine what the Old Testament says about the resurrection. Then we examine Jesus’ interacting with His disciples in His resurrection body to learn what the resurrection body is capable of.
