problematic feminist stance

hey, it’s a woman here.

i’ve only listened to every episode up to XXX, so forgive me if i’m not up to date. but i wanna talk about the way you portray feminism in your podcast. being a feminist myself, i appreciate that you try to infuse feminism into greek myths. i really do. it’s important and educational.

but i feel like the stance from which your approach feminism is quite problematic. you just complain about it, and repeat the same complaints over and over again
throughout the podcast. like yes, we get the idea! but that’s not helpful feminism. that’s just, i’m sorry, really irritating.

the way you complain the myths turn men off. sure. some of them are just terrible people, but also, as a woman, your comments have seemed really inane and irritating to me as well. all you do is talk about how terrible men are, and how much women suffer. that is a fact of ancient greek life, but can’t we extend discussion beyond that toxic gender dynamic? can’t we approach it from a more neutral stance, where we talk about exactly what’s wrong without all that loaded language you constantly use, and find a Lesson that we can draw from these myths? If you want to have actual, constructive education on feminism, what you talk about can’t be so loaded and needs to be backed up by research. that’s why you’re turning all genders off. it’s not just the men who find it annoying. plus, you can’t accomplish actual feminist education with this because we’re not learning ANYTHING! We just know how bad the men are. Please EXPLAIN things, instead of just making 500 comments in an episode and leaving it at that—this just seems like meaningless, surface-level feminism.

moreover, the double standards—i noticed you excused aphrodite’s affairs, because “they’re better and she’s a woman”. Like, what??? Feminism isn’t about double standards. Women don’t need that—if we screw up, we can hold our ground. Feminism is about making sure that both genders are on the same level! so when you excused aphrodite, it just seemed like really bad feminism to me. just don’t comment on it, if it’s unnecessary.

i’m sorry for how harsh i sound here, but i sincerely believe that your stance on feminism needs a lot of improvement. you can maybe try to get some feedback from other people as well, or people who’ve done gender studies and feminist theory. but i still love the premise of your podcast—you just have to research your feminism better.

Almost perfect

This show is really informative and easy to understand. She always gives her feminist stand which is awesome. However, I see that sometimes she attributes female gods mistreating males to bad writing by men because women would not do that (but not for the other way around). It was a bit shocking since Liv is almost always woke. I don’t think dismissing abuse is appropriate especially when we are all fighting it and encouraging men to come out and not be victims of toxic masculinity (including her) but overall, very informative!
