22 - A SEAT AT THE TABLE: THE CHINESE-CANADIAN HISTORY LESSON YOU DIDN'T GET IN SCHOOL w/Denise Fong (@cantoneseheritage‪)‬ What Kind of Asian Are You?

    • Personal Journals

Host: Kyle Leung (@kyle.lhkhk) https://linktr.ee/whatkindofasianareyoupod
Guest: Denise Fong - Hong Kong-Chinese Canadian (PhD Candidate, UBC Interdisciplinary Studies Graduate Program)
Chinese-Canadian migration history and stories about Chinese Canadians in the early days of Canada are often overlooked and ignored in Canadian history lessons and mainstream media. In today’s episode, I have Denise Fong, a Hong Kong-Chinese Canadian living in Canada involved in bringing Chinese-Canadian diaspora migration stories and history to a wider audience in her work in academia and being a co-curator of two Chinese Canadian museum exhibitions in Vancouver.
In our conversation we covered topics like:
Her cultural roots and how she got interested in the Chinese-Canadian identity and experiences of Chinese-Canadian diaspora
Her thoughts on Chinese-Canadian diaspora
The work that she does and the exhibitions that she helped curate
Chinese-Canadian migration history
What Chinese-Canadians are doing in Canada for their communities and heritage preservation
