Weekly Market View: What are the near-term catalysts for markets?

The coming week is an eventful one for investors. The Fed policymakers’ interest rate forecasts through to 2024 will show whether they are turning more hawkish. Also, in focus is China’s measures to contain any fallout from debt challenges at its second-largest property developer. Finally, the German election on 26 September portends to alter the policy space in Europe. Each of these events offers medium-term investors attractive opportunities.

Weekly Market View: A leftward shift in Europe?

Weekly Market View: A leftward shift in Europe?

Germany’s upcoming federal election has the potential to fundamentally alter the policymaking compass of Europe, lifting its growth potential. The ECB too remains highly accommodative, despite upgrading growth and inflation forecasts and announcing plans to slow the pace of its pandemic bond purchases.

We believe the unfolding political and policy map of the Euro area will enable regional equities to outperform global stocks and the EUR to rise in the next 6-12 months.

    - Marco Iachini, Cross-Asset Strategist, Standard Chartered Bank
    - Audrey Goh, Senior Cross-Asset Strategist, Standard Chartered Bank

Weekly Market View: A turnaround in China?

Weekly Market View: A turnaround in China?

China’s markets are likely turning a corner, with some assets such as internet sector equities offering short-term tactical opportunities and others such as High Yield bonds and material and industrial sector equities offering medium-term openings.

We will need to see a dovish turn in China’s fiscal, monetary and regulatory policies before we become more constructive on China equities more broadly on a 12-month horizon.

Short and Sweet

Right to the point. Avoids the fluff in a lot of other podcasts.

Interesting and Insightful

Enjoyed listening to the podcasts that cover the macroeconomic view and well as more granular views on FX. Keeps me informed of the market and the bank's outlook at my convenience. Speakers are easy on the ears, avoid unnecessary technical jargon and make listening enjoyable.

Given my short attention span I preferred the crisper 3 minute Podcasts (like FX) to the longer 10-12 minute versions (like GMO) :)
