Ep 242: You Can Eat Anything You Want

Ep 242: You Can Eat Anything You Want

As Thanksgiving and the holidays are approaching, you might be feeling fearful around food. You might feel as though there’s a lot of different food you can’t eat, which only leads to feelings of desire, frustration, and craving the food even more. So what would you say if I told you that you don’t have to restrict yourself and that you can eat anything you want?

So many of us have negative thoughts surrounding food. We restrict and deprive ourselves of eating certain foods, but it makes us want them more and we end up eating them anyway. And then we’re left feeling worse than ever! Changing the way you think about food is important, as when you start to believe it’s possible to eat whatever you want, you automatically decrease your desire for whatever it is.

Join me this week as I help you see why restrictive thoughts aren’t serving you and share ways to create more peace and freedom around this topic. I’m showing you how to start working with your mind to believe you can eat anything you want, and why changing the way you think will change your relationship with food once and for all.

Ep 241: Life After Dr. Deb Series: Why Committing to Yourself Will Change Your Life with Sabra

Welcome back to another episode of my Life After Dr. Deb series. I love speaking with my former clients! Today’s guest joined me on the podcast a year ago, and I’m so excited to welcome her back today. She’s here to talk about her experience of what it’s like to work with me, and how she’s used the tools I gave her to change her life.

Frustrated, angry, and upset, she discovered my podcast and joined my free mini-session, which led to her committing to herself and changing the way she lived her life.

Join us this week as we learn of Sabra’s journey to a more calm, content, and peaceful life. She tells us how shifting her mindset had life-altering effects, and why as long as you have the dedication and commitment to yourself, you’ll go places. Sit back, lie down or take a walk, and enjoy what she has to say!

    Ep 240 Over-Desire Causes Overeating

    Ep 240 Over-Desire Causes Overeating

In this episode I talk about the reasons for over-desire that create overeating.

The three reasons for over-desire are:

    * Neurotransmitters are programmed to desire anything that gives up a subtle, let alone dopamine, response.

    * We are all being marketed to by food experts all day, every day. Recommended book: Salt Sugar Fat by Michael Moss.

    * We don’t know how to manage our emotions, so we desire food as an escape.

I talk about food science and marketing and, without us being conscious of it, they know how to control OUR brains. Learning consciousness around this is a game changer and can reduce your overeating.

    Episode Highlights

How I Began Working on Menopause

    * I struggled with weight problems my whole life. Menopause weight gain made the problems worse.

    * Even though I was a nutrition expert, I could not control myself around food.

    * Pre-menopause, I would go to Weight Watchers to lose the extra weight before gaining it again, but this hack didn’t work when I hit menopause.

    * I realized that weight loss had nothing to do with food but everything about how you felt and thought about yourself.

    * You shouldn't use food to numb or congratulate yourself.

    Menopause as a Catalyst

    * The most basic connection that we have as human beings is our connection to our bodies, but we lose that connection at an early age.

    * I didn't eat when I was hungry nor did I stopped eating when I was full because, like most women, I lost that connection.

Why Are Women Disconnected from Their Bodies?

    * As a chiropractor, I worked with clients who went to the hospital only when their bodies were at their breaking point and not when their symptoms were mild.

    * Our bodies are begging for us to understand what it's trying to say, but we don’t listen.

    * Women have always been taught to put others first.

    Women’s Self-Destructive Thoughts

    * Women are mean to themselves, always hustling and striving for more.

Why Michelle Decided to Work with Me

Michelle listened to my podcast and realized she needed help to stop her struggles around food and self-confidence.

She was aware that the way she talked to herself was damaging. She also admitted to needing guidance and accountability for her actions.

Through the weekly group meetings, Michelle learned the tools and ideas in transforming relationship with food, helping her take back her control over food.

Sharing the same struggles with other women in the group was a game-changer for Michelle.

How Michelle Used Food as a Reward

Listen to the full episode to discover what made Michelle realize that she was using food as a reward.

Michelle used to think she deserves to eat a lot as a reward for the days she lives healthily.

If something is not making you feel good, empowered, strong, and confident, then that isn’t a reward. It’s a punishment.

Michelle had to understand the power of her decisions and how to make smart choices for herself.

She also learned how to develop self-compassion and be kinder to herself.

    Learning Self-Compassion

Being in my class made Michelle uncomfortable because she recognized her problems by relating to the group’s experiences. For her, change occurs through the discomfort.

In the class, she learned how to become an observer instead of being a critic of herself. Becoming an observer changes the whole dynamic of her relationship with herself.
