Good News and Bad News Antioch Church of the Brethren – Podcast

    • Christianity

Paul had good news and bad news and we’ll hear both today. Follow along in your Bibles Acts 27 and with these sermon notes.

Last week we left Paul, Luke and Aristarchus in a bit of a bind. Having set out from Caesarea, Paul is on his way to Rome so his case can be heard by the Emperor. But this trip hasn’t gone too well. Already in this chapter, Luke says the winds were against them and he uses the word difficulty twice to describe their progress. After stopping in Myra to change ships, they sailed down to Fair Havens on the lower side of Crete before making the fateful mistake of heading 40 miles west to try to spend the winter in Phoenix, not the one in Arizona. Paul warned them not to go, but they did anyway and as they did so, a fierce storm swept down from the island and blew them out to sea where a nasty hurricane engulfed their ship for the next two weeks.
